Could Use Costuming Critique--I'm NEW!
I found a lot of great things at the thrift store today. There was a royal-blue ultra suede suit jacket that literally stuck out from the rack. The hanger was cockeyed, so half the jacket stuck out from the rest of the rack. It screamed "Here I am!" (not literally).
I got some large (about 2" diameter) buttons that I am going to sew on in place of the plain buttons that came on it. For "cuff links" I got a couple smiley face-flowers (yellow w/lime green).
I found a couple shirts, but I think the primary will be this nice orange blouse that will be a great contrast. Capri pants galore at this place, so I got a couple pairs that were heavy on the pink and orange and yellow. I also got a neon green bob wig from the party store. Do I really need a hat, do you think?
I want to find a silk tiger lily that I can tuck into part of my costume. I LOVE tiger lilies, and I have a horrid time finding them. It's all Asiatic lilies nowadays, so it's hard to find tigers, real or fake. What's up with that?! I have some other fake lilies to hold me over for now.
I want to find neon-colored knee-high socks to wear with my Converse All-Star high tops (black w/pink tongue).
I'll get a photo soon--hopefully tomorrow. I don't know if "String Bean" will be a good name for this costume--but that doesn't mean I can have more than one, right?!
Any suggestions would be great. I'm used to critiques: I'm a member of a writers' chapter, and they can be tough!
Thanks in advance!
Christina
PS: What are your opinions about Snazaroo brand face paint? This is what I'm using for face painting, and I really like it. The clown at the mall uses it, as well. Thanks!

For the socks you might check locally at stores that cater to soccer players.

Well, how about a small stuffed tiger with a lily attached :-)
I've been using the Snazaroo for 3 years and I like them. I haven't tried much of anything else so I may just be a bit partial. I'm going to clown camp in June and anxious to take some face painting classes to see what others use and how they do.

I was worried that Tiger Lilly would be lame, but if not, maybe I'll go with it. I just keep picturing "Tiger Lilly" from Peter Pan. I have a little Native American background, but only a tiny, tiny bit...
Then there's Ted Lilly from the Chicago Cubs... ;-)

I think Tiger Lily sounds great. As for your costume you might want to add some polka dots, stripes, or prints either as patches or accessories.

I got a little stuffed tiger that I'm going to call "Boof." This is from a story idea I had for my daughter, except Boof was a Monsters, Inc.-style shaggy friendly monster, and Miss Lily was
a teacher.
I found some socks. One pair, knee-high, is white w/hearts in the colors that go with the set up. The other pair is striped, but only trouser-length.
I'm not going to do a "white face," but I think I'll put flowers--maybe lilies--on my cheeks in place of dots. I will paint on a red nose, of course, but I still have to figure the rest out. The mom at the birthday party tomorrow (which I was only going to face paint) is thrilled that I'd like to go as a clown. I told her it's new and not 100% settled yet, but I can have it be presentable.
Oh, and the "loud" capri pants are hot pink, lime and neon greens, and white. The floral-paisley print is very large. The funny thing is that they're a "petite" size, and I'm tall. But I wanted short, so this works. I think the heart-socks are good. Also, the big "clown" tie from the party store is pink with a big flower print. I'll be wearing a bright yellow shirt under the royal blue jacket.
Loud and proud is Miss Lily!
I'll have the hubby take pic's of this. If I don't break my lovely Canon Digital Rebel, I'll share w'yas!
Thanks so much!
BTW, "Boof" will sit in a conspicuous place, maybe on the orange bag I got, and "watch" as I paint faces and tell a story or three. Wish me luck--it's my first gig!

I'm sorry, I thought you got each capri pants in a different solid color. Now I got it. It sounds like a cute outfit. Good luck at your gig, let us know how everything was.
