The nose knows
Retiring from fire breathing/fire eating, which allows me to add a nose to my tramp (I paint it currently as I never wanted to melt a prop to my face), but have never used one really.
I've browsed through a few companies and like the looks of some from Jom Howle and ProKnows - is there much difference in the quality between the two? What are your preferences and why?

Ny vote would be for pro nose. Leon has been making very good noses for a long time.

The noses are completely different and both are good noses. Jim has more styles with each style being available in a selection of sizes. Jim's noses are a shell without any filler material whereas Leon's noses have a pliable foam filling the inside so they always keep their shape. I own a couple of each with I wear for different character looks. Because you have so many options it can be really difficult to make a decission without seeing them laid out before you at a convention.

How does Howle's nose attach w/o the filler? Spirit gum as well?
Does the foam hold up well over time in Button's noses? or is it a prop I'll need to replace on a semi-regular basis?

I gave up on the glue on noses. Something in my chemistry causes adhesives to just slough off. Even medical adhesives don't stick to me. Guess I won't be in any band-aid commercials.

With Jim's sometimes I use tape and sometimes an adhesive. Jim sells two different types, one is probably a prostetic adhesive and the other is restickable.
The foam on the inside lasts longer than the nose as a whole. When I use a liquid adhesive no matter how careful I am each time I paint it on after a few months it seems that there are little makeup covered glue smears on the outside of my nose. I use different cleaners and for a while it cleans up pretty well for a while but eventually it is easier to toss it in a drawer as a backup and use a new one. With the tape that Leon sells I haven't had that trouble yet. Since I see Jim as well as someone that sells Proknows noses at least once a year (and usually more often) at a convention I just plan on bying a new nose every couple of years. I look just about every convention because it seems there is always a new shape that just begs to create a new character.

I use Pro nose just because the Jim Howel's don't look "rugged" enough to stand the test of time...

I own one of each.
The ProKnows was the first I purchased, but I bought it before I knew any better, and really never liked the look of it. I took a Dremel to it to shape it more to my liking, but it still never really fit my face well. I bought a Howle and loved the look of it on my face, but was frustrated at the lack of filler and it's inability to hold a shape. My solution was to Proknowsify the Howle by using expanding foam insulation and then carving out to fit my nose. It worked really well and I am extremely pleased with the result.
My $.02.

Looking at a few noses and have started narrowing them down a bit...
TJ wears a nose in a photo at the Wooden Nickle Depot that I like, as does Suitcase Sam. What design are they? Anyone know? (obviously TJ and Sam would, but just in case they don't read this!)
I also like Happy Chappy's square-ish nose - is it avaliable in a flesh-tone like the ones in the link above?
Also on nose tips - how do they apply? Pretty much like the full noses? Chas is leaning towards making a clown and likes the flower tip.
Browsing noses at Larocks, but difficult to get a feel for the look when they're not on a face...

Pro nose adhiesive for the tips, I use a red heart shape for Sue, Flower has a red flower previously, but has just switched to a blue sparkle heart tip. Promise has a sparkle white tip she puts the red blush on her nose then sticks on the white, it has a nice effect and stands out well.
