Beta vulgaris is most widely known as beet, and is also called garden beet, beetroot, spinach beet, leaf beet and Swiss chard. It is known in French as betterave potagère, betterave rouge, bette-épinard, poirée à couper, poirée à carde, bette à carde, and côte de blette, and in Portuguese as betteraba de mesa, betteraba vermelha and acelga.[2][3]

I thought Swiss Chard was a fancy thing in the lettuce family, like collard greens and those other funny leaves I walk by in the store. A regular beet, the ones that are that really neat red/purple color that doesn't really have a name, sliced and on a hamburger? Cooked or raw? Are you serious? If so I may just have to try that because it seems so unbelievable. That is like haveing a rainbow on your sandwich. Green lettuce, yellow mustard, orange cheese, red tomato, beet colored beets...
