Thumbs up Advanced Studies '08

Advanced Studies is a great opportunity for quality clown education for the ADVANCED Clown.

I was truly blessed to be able to attend the '07 Advanced Studies and found it refreshing (and exhausting!)

Points I liked about it:

1. Held in a church camp in the beautiful hills near Buchanan, VA.
2. Price includes all food and lodging. (Food is GREAT!)
3. Fabulous instructors

During your week of camp you work towards presenting a grand show to the community the final night. Through your week's experiences you will find out exactly what it takes to put on a production including tearing it all down at the conclusion of the night and packing it away.

A word of caution if you can't take the heat....it is HOT and HUMID there!

You spend at least 90 minutes each day working on "circus skills!" You can pick and choose each day which skill you want to work on (ie: juggling, rolla-bola, plate spinning, stiltwalking, etc)

It truly is remiscent of being a kid at camp....complete with campfires and marshmellow roasts. I LOVED it and valued being able to share in the knowledge and experience of Leon "Buttons" McBryde and his staff. A true legend of our time.

According to Leon last year, when he chooses to do Advanced Studies...he commits to a 3 year program. For this program...this will be the 3rd and final year. At this time, he has no plans to do another one....but who knows for sure. So, like Clown Camp, if you're interested at all in participating in this fabulous event, August '08 would be the time to go!!!!!

Well it is good to hear from you again. We were beginning to wonder what happened to you. What have you been up to PGF?

Hey Sparky, I am trying to decide- I have been to clown camp 3 times. I still feel like I have so much to learn- not sure if I am ready for "advanced training". I do work with balloons and do some clowning- mostly I am a caring clown. I live about 4 hours from this training and hate to miss a good opportunity. I think clown camp is the greatest experience- what are the big differences-other than the living quarters and working on the show for the end? What is your thoughts -after 3 years of clown camp and using lots of the skills I have learned there would Advanced Studies be good for me? Thanks Morning Glory

I have done both. The big difference seemed to be at advance studies they assume you know how to apply makeup and have a costume. It is more about performing, character, movement, and skills.

I'm going and it's an answer to prayer, I started in my Church a year ago and have only been to 2 conferences, I have no one in the area to learn from, when I found out about this from Leon at Circus Magic on Feb, I was the second one in line to sign up. So if your worried about not having enough experience, you got way more than me, Hope to see you there!!

Hey Penelope, I just registered today. I am so excited. I didn't really know much about Advanced studies. I just live about 4 hours away- so I decided I needed to take advantage of the opportunity. I'll see you in about 5 weeks. Morning Glory

Hey dear...yea I have been MIA.

My shift at work changed I work from 11m-7am Sunday-Thursday, so I am soo tired all the time. My kids are out of school for the summer so I am unable to sleep when they are there. I got maybe 8 hours in 4 days this week.

I don't get on here much and I am sorry. Someone throw some pie at me or something..maybe a few water balloons. How are ya Fitz?
