Default Great Circus Parade

A few weeks ago, during Spring Break, I visited Circus World, in Baraboo, WI, which boasts the largest circus wagon collection in the world, as well as a treasure trove of other historic circus memorabilia. For those of you who haven't visited Circus World, it's well worth the trip.

Anyway, while I was there, a museum employee told me about the Great Circus Parade, to be held in Milwaukee in July 2009, after a 6-year hiatus, and at a cost of $1.5 million.

The parade will feature 75 of these historic circus wagons, as well as marching bands, CLOWNS and other circus performers, etc. The woman at Circus World told me that they always need clowns for this parade. I'm wondering if any of you have ever either participated in this parade as a clown or spectator.

I know it's not happening for a year-and-a-half, but wouldn't it be cool to be a part of something like this?

Here's a link to a newspaper article about the parade.

I'm hoping to attend. If they want additional clowns to be part of it, I'd certainly be game.

So Tim, I take it you are familiar with this event. Have you ever seen the parade? Been to Circus World? (probably--since you're a hop, skip and jump away in Chicago)

Do you have any idea how a clown gets into the line-up? It looks like the International Clown Hall of Fame would be a good place to start. I guess we have some time to figure it out.

By the way, NICE new avatar!

Actually, no. I've known about it all my life but never actually made it to the parade (or Baraboo, for that matter.)

I know that the museum did have a guest clown program a couple of years ago. But hardly anyone participated, sadly. A friend of mine was one of the few who did. I'll have to ask around and see if they are going to invite ordinary, average clowns to be part of the parade. It sure would be a cool thing if some of us could be involved.

But you know what, if they didn't want "common" clowns in the parade, I'd be totally content sitting back in my lawn chair and taking it all in as a spectator.

Well, in that case, make reservations in Milwaukee as soon as you can (even a year in advance), as this will be BIG and it will likely be difficult to find lodging late in the game.

If it was this year, I would have a hard time since I already have too many vacations planned, but if the Clown Forum get in the parade next year, I would be game. I have family in Chicago and could always plan a side trip to Milwaukee.

In a "fortwo" I would hope. Awesome car, someone had clowns in mind when they designed it. Getting the convertible I presume.
