Default Amish Facepainting

Hi all, I had a great time painting at a carnival this weekend. I've included a picture of an Amish girl I painted a heart on because most of you have never seen much less painted an amish person. There was a mom with 6 girls all Amish, and they ALL 6 got the same "Island scene" on their face--with silhouette of palm trees and sunset. What a hoot.

didn't see the pic, but I'd be careful about taking their pic. so as to not offend. I spent sometime touring the Amish in Penn. once and was cautioned strongly about this as it goes against their faith.

I was surprised to hear that you were able to get a pic as well. We have a lot of Amish folks in northern lower MI, But then there are a lot of faiths and religions that fall under "Amish" such as Menonites, etc. So it may be that you encountered some folks who are somewhat ok w/ technology.

Glad to hear that you and your patrons had a great time!

Default Amish

No problem==I live among them, and although the adults don't like getting their pictures taken, they don't care about the children. They're not as conservative as you'd think!! I did ask her if I could take her picture. I had lots of other Amish that day. Just wanted you all to see it for yourselves.

Amish Ed 101:

Ok--First-if you're Amish, you're Amish. Born and raised, hope for heaven
wear the Kapp that covers their ears. No electricity IN the house, but you can on the porch or breezeway, with a freezer or refrigerator there. Lots of them use generators to start their water pumps and keep stuff running. Phones are located at the end of their lanes-3 or 4 families share these. Some do have cell phones. The Bishop of their sect decides what is or isn't allowable.
Mennonites are a break off of the Amish, and know they're going to heaven. Conservative Mennos wear a Kapp, but not over their ears. Liberal Mennos wear a "covering" such as a doily. A lot of Mennonites I work with grew up Amish, but chose to leave because they got saved.
Beachy Amish have all the garb of the Amish, but they can drive cars, and have electric and phones. Some are really saved, but it's here and there.
OK_-so you all know a little more about the Amish. If you have any questions, please call 1800Jitterbug. LOL
I just know a lot about them because I live and work among them. They're everywhere here.

When I clicked the link, it didn't work. It just came up where I could upload my photos.
