I don't want to harp because I am not attacking you. I am scared and concerned. Insurance is always wise but I myself put it off for a number of years because I was not doing very many paid gigs. The main reason we are recommending it so strongly is the danger you and the children are in because of the acrylic paints.
I would reccomend you do not face paint when you go out. Even if you are the best face painter in your alley. Go out and clown, entertain everyone within a five block radius. Use all those talents God gave you and the skills you have been working on, just leave the face paints at home.
How many colors do you use? The $15 kit by Snazaroo contains 8 colors and there is enough paint to do (read this slowly and let it sink in) 400 to 500 cheek designs. That is about 3 cents worth of paint per face. Sass, if you will contact me I might be able to get a deal on a kit for you, or even get together with a few friends around here and collect a few donations to send you. I have talked to a couple of professional face painters as well as makeup artists and they may join CF just to encourage people not to use acrylics in face painting.
I'm sorry if I am coming off to strongly on this but it is really, really important. Again please read www.snazaroo.us/faqacrylics.htm

Only want to let a balloon go up (sorry Duch expression) to give it a thought. I mainly do paid work but occasionally I also do something voluntary. My policy towards working voluntary is that I give them my time but not the costs that I make. They pay for the balloons, bubbles, paint, benzine etc. So why not using better paint and let them pay the bill. I don't think you should pay that bill. When I work voluntary I don't start using the cheap balloons that pop 1/2 the time because I'm a volunteer, no I still use the better more expensive Qualatex. Generaly the organisation doesn't make a fuss of paying for them they already happy I work for free. If the would make a fuss of this then my answer would be; "Sorry then I won't make balloons"

No that is a pretty good idea. They get you services for next to nothing and you get to keep the extra balloons or face paints. And you make sure you get the good stuff.

I use Paradise and snaz. one thing about them. they look small and when you first see them you think, they'll never do as much as they say, but they do that last and you'd be amazed how many faces you can do. I prefer paradise and you can order the colors indiviually and the just pop them in. I tend to use white and black up quicker than the other colors.

Doc and Jasper both use Palmer's face paint. It is hypo-alergenic and was made for face painting. I also, keep a look out for kids alergic to red food colors. This includes orange, purple, pink, and even tan and brown along with red.
My mess with my bottles is because I don't take the time to wipe up after I use a color and the paint on the lid gets on the side. I just have to find a better way of holding and transporting my jars. I think this will reduce my mess.

When i was younger I found out that red food colouring sent me into hyper cranky pants mode. I have to avoid any food with red colour 120 to 129. i think 122 was the worst. its amazing the amount of colours that had red in them. i remember coming across a green jelly (or jell-o for you yanks) with red in it!

I went to the Palmer's website. It looked interesting but not very computer friendly for dialup connection. Their prices seem very reasonable. Not a lot of color options, do they mix well? Are they similar in consistency to tempa paints? Are the colors vibrant? The pictures I did see looked very good. Thanks for the info Doc.

you can get palmer's at Wal-mart in the craft section, both the small container [like water paints] and then a set of 6 jar sets, there ok but not near as good as snaz or paradise, and tend to crack, but you can easily get them and try them out for your self. Or at least That how I feel, my youngest uses them for her to practice and do face painting.
