How do you fit in facepainting to your routine?

Im a facepainter looking to add clowning to my repertoire. How do clowns fit in facepainting? Im well known for my facepainting so im not sure i want to add it to my routine at all.

I always have a huge kit of facepaints and glitters etc for facepainting gigs but wonder how clowns fit in facepainting to their routines without having to set out a huge kit?????

Any ideas? tia!

when i am asked to do a party i say, what do you want me to do. i try to go with magic and balloons, eiher walk around magic or a show (if there will be a crowd for it) if they still want facepainting, i say, okay. ill do facepaitning first, then magic, then balloons. at facepainting you get to warm up to them, talk closesly, find out their name, etc. it isnt about what you paint (although it really helos to be good at it!@!) its about hwo you interact. its like my preshow. i tease some kids and get out a huge paint roller. then on to magic and balloons. i adjust facepainting detail to time and amount of kids, same with magic, but i can do balloons all day, so thats what i do...

Sometimes I just do facepainting, out of clown for festivals, but I still post pic and give out business cards for my clown business.
When I do it at a party for me it's usually at the end. I do my magic comedy routine first and end with either balloons or facepainting, I like to do it at the end, so parents can set up for the cake and opening gifts that way kids aren't waiting for their turn but can be busy, while I do this one on one time. If Flowers is with me, I can change this around as she'll play games/music [like the chicken dance] while I paint or do balloons

In our troupe we have clowns that specialize in face painting and clowns that specialize in balloons twisting.

Sassy and I both are face painters for our troupe but the events that we do are so bit that, we have little time for anything else. For most of the events there are a few clowns twisiting balloons and Sassy and I are busy painting faces. And occassionally I will twist a balloon or two. To help out the others.

But that is because the events that we do have hundreds of children.

Hey girlfunky, first off welcome, and then there's your little querie. I have found it is easy to add this to your clowning, especially if you have already been doing it for a while, If anybody can condense the painting kit is is an experienced painter. I usually offer it as one third of my variety pacakge of Balloons, facepaints and fun magic. The balloons are a,ways first and then the little fun magic fills the middle, honed according to the time limit and painting is the finale. I hsave always told the client that face apinting or body art as I call it takes about 2-5 minper child depending on designs I offer. As well as the balloons take about the same. So I figure about 90 minutes for the whole package and quote them accordingly. I try to keep the designs to three minutes each and that's at least 45 min right there, same for the balloons and thersyour 90 but usually there is at least 20 minutes in between to do something else so I offer fun magic and do tricks according to the timing. Or you can do a combo with puppets instead of magic or whatever suits your particualr clown. Good luck on setting this in motion, the first few parties are always the toughest to plan, then you can get your self time regimented and go for the best.
