I still want to know how you can apply StarBlend dry faster than applying any cake makeup "wet". For me the process isn't much different.

Paradise (or any other): Spray cake, thoroughly load sponge with makeup until surface of cake is dry, apply to skin.

StarBlend: Thoroughly load smoothie blender with dry powder, tap of excess powder, apply to skin.

Three (about equal length) steps in both cases. I guess I just am someone unenlightened who can't get it?

I think it has to do with the fact that I am not a "Pro" when it comes to any clown skill ( being that I have only been doing this since late last fall) It is easier for me to keep control of what is going on with the color and applicator....Sorry, it just seems that way to me...

I've also been doing it since late last fall. I think it's more just personal preference. I really ought to buy Marcela's DVD. I'm sure I could be using powders better

I don't really try to "control" the color that much when sponging on my base - generally you want all your base colors nicely blended, then I outline them and that's where control really counts.

True.
I hear the DVD is great, I have all the books and got to see Heather up close and personal (I was her assistant for all of her classes @ our convention) using the powders and I am sure this influnced my decision.

Default Using Starblend

Sorry for the delay in this......just catching up!

I noticed you used the "damp sponge" method to apply your Starblend. It's intended to be used DRY! Once you add water to them, they won't work well dry again.

They are a highly pigmented powder meant to be applied dry.

There are some powders, however, that can be used either wet or dry. But they say once you've used them wet, you can no longer use them dry. Ben Nye Luminiers are one of those powders.

I still use my starblends exclusively for "power painting" (long lines). Much faster than sponging and a whole lot less messy. You really need the "smoothie blenders" to apply them properly.

Happy painting!

Actually, they're not Sparky. Mehron originally intended them to be used with a damp sponge. This is confirmed by Heather Banks @ Silly Farm and through Mehron's product material. Remember they are a theatrical foundation, not a face painting product (Paradise is Mehron's face painting product).

Applying them dry is something that seems to have first started with Mama Clown and Heather Banks, though I'm not sure on that.

Certainly there's no reason you can't apply them dry, I just don't like it. I have tried the smoothie blenders with it, and I just can't get the coverage dry that I can with any wet makeup (including the Starblend on a damp sponge).

On the other hand, I DO use my Ben Nye Lumiere makeup dry with a smoothie blender... to each his own I guess As long as it works for you, and you're using safe products intended for makeup application and following safety guidelines, use it how it works for ya!
