Default Star Blends

Well I've not been happy with the star blends I tried. I email Heather at Silly Farm asking for recommendations, I need a white that will work well on darker skin. She state that Star blends was one of the best. I might have gotten an old one as I got it some where else, so I'm gonna order another one and try again.
[in response to another queston ]
You have to apply powders with a sponge or smoothie.

Any one care to express there opinion on Star Blends?

I have some that I purchased from Heather @ convention. The red and white I use for Spider Man which makes that process ALOT faster! The pink I use for Sassy's cheeks. I love them all and am going to purchase more I am sure of that.

I don't really like the Starblend personally... The color isn't very strong when used as a dry powder and when applied with a damp sponge it's like "might as well use my Paradise"

It's more water resistant than the Paradise and it makes a better theatrical foundation and probably is a better face painting foundation in a hot or humid climate. Still, not my thing for face painting... I've tried it, didn't like it.

Now loose Ben Nye Lumiere Luxe... that's another story! LOVE IT!

Do you use them with a damp sponge or dry?

Sue - What are you trying to accomplish with the Star Blends?
Are you looking for a base to paint on top of?
Are you looking for a background as white as clown white?
Are you adding water and using it like Paradise white?
Are you...????

Lightbulb YES to starblends!

I really love using Starblends for background colors. It's much quicker for me than sponging. I only use mine dry. It's also the most "cost-effective" of the powders when doing a LOT of face painting.

When I do "older" youth or adults with more sophisticated designs, I prefer using my Ben Nye Luminiere powders. They're much more rich and shimmery but cost a lot more and come in a little container.

It helps if you take the opposite end of your smoothie-blender (the hard handle) and gently scrape some of the starblend loose which will allow you to pick-up a little more to lay on the skin.

Marcella has a GREAT DVD on using the powders which helped me a lot.

Good luck!

I have been using star blend for about a year and the only thing I can find better then the starblend is airbrush and that is not cheap at all. To get the same look I would use starblend.

I'm really curious about these comments, because sponging doesn't IMHO take any longer or provide any less of an "airbrushed" effect than the StarBlend product. In fact, the StarBlend provides more of that look when used wet and... sponged.

The smoothie blender on dry StarBlend technique just doesn't work that well for me. I mean, I've got it to *work* but the colors are too flat for my tastes when applied that way and it takes me longer than sponging...

Personal preference in any case

P.S. one more detail, I once applied StarBlend (damp sponge technique), Paradise, and Snazaroo white to my arm and blended them into each other so you couldn't tell which was which readily.

The StarBlend was the faintest by a slight amount - the Snazaroo and the Paradise looked best. Then I sprayed my arm with a stream of water from the sink sprayer thingie. The Snazaroo product was basically gone. There was a little bit of Paradise left. The StarBlend was only partially faded.

So that is one thing to keep in mind... my test means it should hold up better to sweat and the like (that was the goal of the test anyways, though not a perfect simulation)
