Default Glitter Tatoos

I have lost a few parties because I don't do facepainting. Unfortunatly my artistic skills are minimal . The airbrush systems are way too expensive for me. These glitter kits seem like they would be a way to add a type of facepainting to my bag of tricks.

Silly Farm - Mama Clown Glitter

Has anyone used them? Are they good for those of us who are not artistic? Does anyone know if the stencils are reusable, or are they one time use only?

I haven't used these, I haven't used anything similar, and I don't know anybody who has used these.

That being said, I think one of the big problems with stencils is that they look like stencils - there's gaps between parts of the design necessary to hold the stencil together - unless the person is willing to paint those in by hand. And if you're willing to do that, you might as well not use the stencils.

My suggestion - worth every penny you paid for it - would be to develop a nice limited repetoire of paintings, and let the kids pick off of a menu. Not on the menu, not available.

Lollyplop:

I'm like you -- definitely not an artist. However, I've been trying to increase my self-confidence in this area and am getting over my face-painting phobia.

I've practiced endlessly on my own children and now have a menu of a dozen or so small designs that I feel relatively comfortable painting.

At first I didn't feel like I was good enough to accept a paid face-painting gig, so I participated in volunteering face-painting events with my clown club. That way, I didn't feel as pressured to produce perfection. Come to think of it, I don't think I even list face-painting on the back of my business card, but I've gotten to the point where I will do face-painting at some paid events.

I've also discovered the value of glitter. Anything looks good if you put enough glitter on it!

Some of us will never be Monets in this area, but if you practice enough, you can reach the point where you feel competent.

I know it sounds fearful, but try full face designs, there a lot easier than you think. I started with cheek art, but now do mostly full faces, it's quicker, gets a big effect, and the kids really love it. If you check out Silly Farm Supplies Inc. - face and body paints and face and body painting look at the lower section were it says videos, they post 2-3 how to's every month on different designs.

I haven't tried the glitter tats. yet, but I did by soem reg. tattoos, either I got a bad batch, or they don't do well in extreme temps.

Well, once more I am going to toss in here and try not to trip over my big feet. I bought a glitter kit from Paula Biggio last October at the Midwest Round-up. I have played with it once or twice and now that it is nice out I plan on using it more often. The stencils are reuseable, but you have to be careful because they are thin and can be easily torn. If you find a design or two that you really like or that is really popular buy a few to have on hand as backups. They are not that expensive and it is good insurance. The stencils are adhesive backed to they stay in place on the skin. Apply the "glue" to the open places, add glitter, it doesn't hurt to lightly press the glitter for a moment; lightly brush away the excess, and voila! A beautiful glitter tattoo that should last for a couple of days. At first these are not very fast to apply. After a few tries it becomes fairly fast and easy. It is especially grabing for teens and adults. I would compare prices with Paula... Clown Supplies Laugh It Up Clownstuff She is knowledgable and fair. Let her know that Dan sent you her way and she will take care of you. I get nothing in return for recommending her. She is a Midwest vendor (read that resource) that most people are not aware of.

Fitz I can't find Glitter kits on Clown Supplies Laugh It Up Clownstuff site. They were at clownfest last year, so maybe they will be there this year as well. I think I may have a brochure from them someplace. I actually found the brochure but there are no glitter kits in that either, She must just have it on the road. Hopefully I will see her at clownfest.

I do have these in my kit, yes I use the ones Heather @ Silly Farm sells (I buy all my face paint stuff from her - the service is great and when you buy everything from her, you benefit from the fact that in the rare and horrible chance there was to be a product liability issue, she carries product liability insurance herself (she needs to because she repacks a lot of things thus making her the manufacturer)) No, they're not the cheapest but I see the extra 50cents to a dollar I pay on each item as what I pay for the service, the incredible videos, and the unique products she has (her own repackings - the rainbow cakes, the "wonder palette", etc)

Anyways, on to the glitter tattoos - they are absolutely NOT a substitute for face painting and shouldn't be done on faces (prosthetic adhesive is very hard to remove and parents could get unhappy - I will only do them on the faces of older (at least 12 or so) kids). They're also very expensive - I charge an extra $30/hr to make up materials cost. I've only done them a few times because of this.

There is a skill and art to applying them well (you want them to last and look good but dry quickly and not use all your glitter) so don't think they're amazingly easy, though of course they are easier than face painting...

The beginner kit that Heather has is an amazing bargain and definitely worth buying and trying out. I'll be doing them this summer for sure, they're great for beach parties and stuff because unlike face paint, you can swim and prosthetic adhesive won't come off!

However, if you want to add face painting to your services, get some face paints and learn to face paint I strongly recommend Mark Reid's DVD On Your Mark, Get Set, Paint as well as Marcela "Mama Clown" Murad's The Face Painting Book of Masks

Face Painting is an amazingly fun art, learn it. And get some glitter tattoo stuff too Both are great but not substitutes for each other...

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know

Lolly, I would suggest you call Paula. I'm not sure how often they have their website updated since they don't do it themselves. Paula's number is (847) 698-3378, I suppose I should more acurately say that the number for Laugh It Up Clown Stuff is (847) 698-3378.

I love to face paint and yet today I had a need for temp tats and glitter tats! I suggest you try it all. My first Festival I used all of the above and it seems that any event I do some want one or the other so I always take all three. Pickles it sounds like your well on your way! Keep it up and heather will be calling you for one of her youtube demos....
