Default Face Painting Newbie

Hey folks,

I started face painting at my son's birthday party and have been hooked ever since. I really enjoy it because I have always been very artistic and able to draw and paint very well on all mediums. I would like to earn some money for face painting by doing private parties, but do not know how much to set up pricing (per child, by the hour, etc.).

Hi Chantel. I haven't had the courage to break out my paints yet. I'm more autistic than artistic unless it is with my balloons. Sure am gathering a bunch of cool idea pictures.

The price will depend a lot on where you live and what competition you have.
Of course you want to make sure you are using paints that are intended to put on skin.

My wife Bubbles and I price our events according to what we are asked to do. We offer balloons, facepainting or general walk-arounds, or any combination of the three. Facepainting seems like it should cost more, based on the work, and talent, involved, so we price it higher than our other offerings. Generally, people will want facepainting and balloons, and Bubbles can do her thing while I do mine.

I charge $45/hr for face painting and/or balloons and $75/hr for glitter tattoos.

I also live in an area that isn't very well off, I'm priced right about the same as the other face painter in town, and face painting is basically unheard of here. So pricing needs to stay low. Move to another town and you can easily have another story!

Blessings,

Mark

I haven't done the face painting yet, but I did go to a face painting jam where a lot of local face painters meet to share ideas. I was surprised how much money they spend on paints, brushes, sponges, books, etc. I though clowning was expensive with the costumes and props, but face painting can be just as expensive.

I live in my house with my dog, Buddy. But, it he keeps things up, he will be moving into the dog house.

My house is in South Riding, which is a suburb of Washington DC.

I live over the hill and through the woods... and through some more woods... down I-81 South (even though it appears to go North!) from Sir Toony (kinda! Southwest Virginia and our Northern acreage is really nothing alike!)... nonetheless, I'm in Virginia as well...
