Yelp, Nursing Homes and hospitals are great places to clown.

Nursing homes are less restrictive than hospitals, but they are fun to do.

You know, it would be fun to ask your boss if one day we can go in there and just shake hands and give out a nice, little handout for the old folks to cheer them up. Especially on a lesser known holiday, like Grandparent's Day, when many of them sit there, forgotten...or their families are too busy to come visit.

There are like 3 nursing homes and a retirement village all within a little over a mile from my home. Some people from my Church go to the nursing homes regularly to bring them communion and visit. The place is always looking for volunteers. It has never been something which I have felt drawn to get particularly involved with. But now that I am clowning, the thought of offering my assistance in that way has crossed my mind. I have some other priorites at the moment, yet hopefully in the relatively near future I'll be able to explore this more.

I've worked in Nursing homes in the past too. One of the saddest thing is that you see these lonely people and how sweet they are, but you don't know the type of person they were before. No one deserves to be alone, but the old saying you reep what you sow is part of this. Then there are those families that keep mom at home for the check but don't care one bit for her or her needs and she'd be better off in a nursing home. But you also see those that the family can't keep at home, but are involved and visit and volunteer their time there. You see all kinds.

My group visits the {county home} lesser funded home in town as the more affulent one gets lots of visitors.

One thing about nurisng homes is you need to change your material, for those that remember well still, they'll remember what you did before, others won't,

The hospital patient load changes so much you can still to a routine if you want. I always had my stool sample, u-R in Jar, my sketch pad, Brown E. to name a few.
