Default Honk Honk!

Greetings all!

I found this place today while looking at clown schtuff. Still working on a rough design for my clown, but I have a few ideas I intend to keep.

To the best of my knowledge, we don't have any "street clowns" here in Savannah. Which is surprising, as we have a thriving tourist industry and the streets and parks downtown are almost always occupied by visitors and locals. We have a variety of musical performers, and the occasional performance artist doing his or her thing, but no clowns. NO CLOWNS! Something needs to be done.

Enter Sherman the Clown.

My concept for Sherman is to caricature and clownify the "businessman" archetype that can be seen pretty much anywhere. The base for the costume will be a slightly oversize, very loud (primary colors) business-type suit, outlandish dress shirt, goofy tie, suspenders and some big shoes. I'll round it out with makeup, a wig, and some appropriate and comedically-large accessories (5"x7" Business cards, big chunky wristwatch, and a HUGE cellphone, cause if I'm talking loudly on a big phone, then I must be important). I'll spend my time entertaining with typical clown-fare, but with the themed twist thrown on it.

The idea will probably evolve over time, but the intention will remain the same... to spend some free time enjoying the outdoors and people, and get a few laughs while I'm at it.

I welcome the advice and knowledge of the community here, and hope to make some friends along the way.

Welcome Sherman! A clown caricature of a businessman, sounds pretty funny! (Maybe the show mentioned by the casting director in the thread upstairs should have you on to poke fun of the whole process ) I hope you'll post pictures once you get your costume together.

Sounds great Sherman. You'll have to be a sad hobo characture clown because you'll be a workaholic! lol
Hair that stands up on ends sounds good. A big red nose is a MUST. go to www.clownsupplies.com
and there's TONS of other clown suppliers of noses and wigs etc. Good luck!!

Thanks all for the words of encouragement.

I've only recently discovered that clowning is something I really want to do. And since I've raised the subject with those that know me, the unanimous sentiment is "you'd be perfect for that". Even my girlfriend, who is terrified of clowns thought about it for a bit and agreed that I should give it a try, since it suits me, as she put it.

I love to have fun, tell bad jokes, and just generally make a fool of myself, just now I have an excuse to take it out of the house and onto the streets. Hehe... nobody I've told was the least bit surprised to hear that I want to be a clown.

I'd really like to apprentice under a more experienced clown, though there doesn't seem to be many clowns in my city as one would think, and we don't have an alley. Two things I'd like to fix over the next few years if I can help it.

I think I've got a lot of work to do.

There's a week long clown camp held in GA every year. It's called TNT although is id religious based you can get a log of training, and perhaps make some good contacts, I will be in July next year. check out the www.clowning4christ.com site, they also have weekend camps, one was just in Sept. You mignt be able to find a clown near you that will mentor you.
