Why not just tell your parents you'd like to try some clowning? What's so terrible about being a clown that you're afraid of telling your parents? I've never thought of being a clown as something you have to "come out" about! Besides, you'll probably need a "real job" in the beginning just to afford big shoes, funny hats and tricks. Let them think the "real job" is the one that brings in money. We clowns all know better.
If you have a theatrical store in town, they might be able to put you in touch with a clown alley -- a group of local clowns -- who could be wonderful help in exploring the world of clowning. You can also call area hospitals to see if they have a group of volunteer clowns. Explore the internet, create your character, make a costume, learn an act and volunteer. Clowning is a WONDERFUL thing to do because you can start as a hobby, move up to a part time job and, sometimes, become a full time professional clown. The key is to do SOMETHING.
