Default New Clown in Town

I am just getting started as a clown and found this great forum. I hope to learn from this forum as I explore possible clown names, faces, and costumes.

Last year, I started getting into acting for films and tv programs. Well, I was an extra in several productions. I also attended the New York Film Academy's Acting Workshop and attended an acting convention. This year, I want to get more into entertaining and plan to take some acting and improv classes. I also hope to attend a clown convention or class.

I used to be able to juggle three balls and I am fairly experienced with Halloween makeup. I have a set of Snazaroo face paints and have won best Halloween costume twice.

Hey! Welcome to the Clown Forum! I come from an acting background myself! I got into clowning while studying for a theatre degree. I would say improv is some of the best training you get as an actor and as a clown! Best of luck to you!

Always glad to have another member on the Forum. Check out www.coai.org Mike, in April there will be a big convention just down the road from you.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

I will definitely see if I can make it down to Richmond for the convention.

I haven't come up with my clown name yet. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I mean, do you create a good clown name and then build the costume and makeup to match the name or do you create the costume and makeup and find a name that fits?

It's more like pick a name any name, then start putting a costume together and then change your name and then your costume, and so on. Eventually you will find something that just seems to fit and that sticks around for awhile. You really don't need to worry about things being permanent for the first couple of years. So often as your clown develops, well he most likely won't develop along the lines you thought he would at first. Kind of like raising a child (or so I've been told.)
