Hi everybody...
Cat here-just checking in. I'm really new to all this...so please don't expect a great big bunch o laughs just yet! Actually, after many years of feeling I was a clown, and having my nephews and nieces tell me I should be in the circus(and a customer or two here at the store-just the kids though!) I decided I really wanna make a go at being an entertainer-and especially a clown. I mostly have been learning a lot of ballooning(that seems to be the one thing I've taken to naturally) and hope to learn juggling, magic, and some other skills very soon. Set myself on a 2 year plan during which I hope to meet plenty of other clowns, practice new skills, continue working here in the ice cream store, hopefully tag along with someone in the future, learn some skits-and just make the public happy generally. After two years it is my hope to work some parties of my own from the land my fiance and I are planning to purchase(we want to grow our own food and live off the energy grid.) Sounds awful serious for a clown, huh? Anyway, I hope to meet you all in the future, share some jokes and contribute to the dialog. Great forum, thanks! Cat

Welcome to the board. If your looking to meet and chat with some good clowns, then you have come to the RIGHT place! There are plenty of well seasoned clowns around this place. And enough info in the archives to keep you busy for months.

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!
Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!

And believe it or not we know a little bit about alternative energies as well. Where are you located? Are you planning to build a house from scratch using green methods or renovate an existing structure? Are you able to raise your own windmill or planning on mostly solar?

Alternative energy
We actually hope to make it very simple, either an existing structure or an alternative living situation like a yurt. As for energy, we will probably use a windmill and one or two solar panels...our energy needs are very low and we will be looking for land in a moderate temperature.
We would grow most of our own food and pay taxes and upkeep equipment with the money made from my fiance's massage business, me clowning, and the surplus from what we grow. We are not farmers per se, so we won't be looking to make huge profits-plus we want a small portion of land so the upkeep will not be so taxing. Hey, thanks for the interest and I really look forward to sharing more with you all. Cat

Welcome Cat! Good luck with all your plans; it sounds like hard work to implement but very rewarding. I would very much like to go solar myself but can't see that happening soon (high initial cost, high energy demands, not much room to work with).

Hi Cat! Good luck in your clown education. You certainley are a planner. I'm kind of a more jump right in and learn from experience sort of person/clown. I too am intrested in alternative energy and gardening. Although I have no plans to go to the efforts you are envisioning, I believe we must do all we can to make the enviorment a liveable healthy one for future generations. Plus I'm really cheap and energy saving usually saves money too. Clowns tend to live outside the box, I think you will fit in here just fine.

Love the yurt idea. My husband's dream is to live in a teepee or a longhouse. He loves the idea...it's cold here, so I'm not sure I want to do that right now. We may just buy some land, and do it that way this spring. I dunno. I like my windows...and the flushing toilet.
Call me high maintainence. Oh well! Welcome! Look forward to learning more about you!

You mean they actually have those in Amish country? Be careful, you don't want the Bishop to shun you.....
