Thanks...I have bought quite a few books on clown ministry. I will have to look into that Creative Clowning. I've heard lots of good reviews of that one. I do have Strutter's guide to clown makeup; I bought a used copy off Amazon. Thanks for the great encouragement, and ideas. I'll have to look at all this site has to offer. What a blessing!

Welcome to the Forum Pinky. A couple of things you should know from the beginning.
1) It will be fun (honest!)
2) It will take time, effort and $ (In varying degrees over time.)
3) You will have lots of support (We are very supportive)
4) Occasionally, slow down and take a deep breath.
5) The Clown-Forum is addictive (for good reason!)
6) You can do it! (Even though you will have doubts.)
7) People want you to succeed. They want you to make them happy and that mindset makes it easier to succeed.
8) You don't have to be perfect! (But that is not an excuse not to try.)
9) You will have plenty of support.
10) Take another deep breath.

Welcome to the group Pinky! I actually grew up in Stafford VA. My sis-in-law is a clown (AKA Giggles -or- Penelope) also, and she still lives in Stafford. My mom, also a clown (AKA Liberty Belle), lives in Roanoke VA. I used to work in Woodbridge while I was in high-school... But now I live in Buffalo NY.

I am also new to clowning - I just started last month while on the Clowning at Sea cruise with my mom and sis-in-law.

Anyway, you might be interested in checking out Advanced Studies 2008 It is a camp geared towards new and experienced clowns - and it is not far from your location! It takes place in August this year in Buchanan VA. I am going to this camp along with my mom and my sis-in-law - and there are also a couple of others from this forum attending it this year also!

Again welcome to the group! Hope to chat with you more soon!

Bump a nose!

Welcome Pinky! I'm fairly new to clowning myself, but we have an awesome clown ministry at our church. I absolutely love it! One of the things we do is regular nursing home visits. It takes a special person to do that. Sometimes it's not so easy. But God always blesses us so much when we visit. I haven't been the last 2 months & have really missed it - we only go once a month.
Well, welcome to the Forum! It's great - very helpful! If I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate to ask! I'll do what I can.

Hi Harmony! Thanks for all your help. I just asked our assoc pastor yesterday if he knew of anyone in our church that did clown ministry, and he said no. But then he said he'd love to try his hand at it with me! He's very young, and I know he would have the right "spirit" for it! He said he already knows how to make balloon animals (he's ahead of me right there!). I would love to do some nursing home visits, but don't know where to begin. I ordered a DVD online about clown ministry. I'm hoping that when it gets here, it will give me some insight on how to get started. Right now I'm flying solo!
God bless,
Robin
