Default Hello!

Hello all. I am brand new to clowning, so new in fact I just picked a name the other day (Zoey) I am looking forward to meeting all of you and hopefully gaining some words of wisdom to help me with my clowning.

I went to clown classes when I was about 10 (I'm 19 now) and was so thrilled with it. But as with everything else when I was that age I grew tired of having to learn new things. But clowning was always in the back of my mind trying to get me to start back up again, so 9 years later I am now trying to get back into it. I am trying to get a costume and learn to face paint. I have some basic balloons down (it was the one thing I remembered after all those years) I have always loved to entertain and would love to be able to do birthday parties as well as charity work. I am so happy to have found this forum.

Welcome to the Forum Zoey, so glad you found us. Where are you located? There may be a few clowns in your neck of the woods. There are a couple of threads full of resources you should look for. Everything from recommendation of books to read, websites to visit, pictures to look at and lots of other "stuff." Ask plenty of questions and we will do out best to answer.

I live in Palm Springs California, which is home to Harpo T Clown. I just went to a seminar in Vegas which was very informative and helped a lot for routines and such. But I am having a really hard time with a costume and character. I have been told starting off with overalls is the way some clowns go. I also am not quite sure how I would like my makeup to be but I am thinking of an auguste (?) look. Thank you all for being so welcoming it seems like such a great forum.

Glad to have you Zoey ---we have not been clowning very long but we love it --my daugther is 17 and her name is Rose Petal--we both love it very much. When you find your right look you will know immediately

The makeup takes time, that is for sure. A couple of things do help. One is using good quality makeup (Mehron and Ben Nye are two of the best.) Another is looking at lots of pictures of clowns with well designed faces. For this you might go to Clowns of America International's website and look at the competition winners. There is a link on their website to other regional clown associations and they usually have pictures on their sites as well. Another site is Pricilla Mooseburger Originals The site is for Pricilla Mooseburger, a former Ringling clown and costumer. You can not only look at the costumes for future ideas (I looked for years before I made that kind of investment, now I am glad I did, both glad I waited so I knew what I really wanted, and glad I finally made the purchase.) bit also look at the makeup of the clowns pictured on the site.
