new applegirl
Hi, I'm not officially a clown, but I have always loved "lame" jokes (or so my friends say), one-liners, easy card- tricks, and my most recent hobby is making balloon animals and toys for my kids. My kids are 2 and 3, the perfect audience for me, a beginner! I've also taught physics classes- and totally entertained the kids with a glass of water on a spinning waiter's tray, bowling balls in the hall, and so on... and I'm certified to teach Biology and Chemistry classes. Small explosions, color- changing liquids- all the magical parts of chemistry that fascinate the kids the most make my job the most fun, and also motivate the students to learn more. I'm waiting for my third child (due the 23rd of April) and doing interviews to teach again this fall- I've been at home raising kids for a couple of years, but I'm ready to teach again... I've noticed that when I can choose anything to do that's fun for me, I like to do clown things. So I'm ready to learn more about what clowns do! I found this board when I was looking for directions to tie a 6- petal balloon flower; that's been tripping me up. I'm pretty good at balloon dogs and bees and swords, so I'm excited to perfect my flowers now...

Hello and welcome Ms. Applegirl!!!!! There are a few tricks to the six petal flower. If you stretch the balloon after inflating, but before tying the two ends together that will soften the balloon and also give you a little bit longer, thinner petals. Then find the oppisite end of your "big circle" that you now have and actually twist into two very long bubbles. That helps your petals be more uniform. Then all you have to do is divide into 3 equal sections and then sqeeze and twist those and you are done (well, except for the stem, but you already knew that didn't you?).
If you have specific things that are giving you a hard time, just ask and all of us here will be glad to help you in any way we can!!!!!
Glad you found us, you are gonna like it here. Come join our chats on Thursday evenings after the kiddos are in bed for the night. It's always interesting. Hugs, Duckie

Welcome to the Forum Apple. What part of of the mitten do you hail from? We have members of all over the state. There are two rather large balloon twisting groups that I am aware of in Michigan and a number of clown alleys as well. The Eastern Michigan Twisters are generally around the Detroit area and the Western Michigan Twisters I think meet in the Grand Rapids area.

Holy cow you clowns are amazing
Who knew so many friendly people were just hanging around on the net hoping to give out a couple of great tips on balloon sculpture and lots of bits of encouragement....? cool. Thank you everybody!
Great balloon flower tips, can't wait to try...
I live downriver, near Detroit, in Grosse Ile- any neighbors out there who want a clown apprentice for the occasional summer weekend party?
