Greetings from Sunny Southern California!
Hello fellow clowns.
In a nutshell, here is my clown history: while attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC 20 years ago I took a clown class and found my true clown self from the moment I put on my red nose. I worked in the musical theatre and did an Industrial show for Macy's where I played a clown- Mr. Tee Hee Helium. It was a lot of fun and my inner clown continued to blossom.
I tried to do a couple of birthday parties on my own but really didn't know what I was doing. I also did some singing telegrams as a clown. A few summers ago I studied at NY Goofs in NYC.
I recently finished my masters in psychology and am working on becoming licensed as a psychotherapist. My dream is to find a way to combine clowning and therapy. I would love to be a hospital clown.
I have been trying to find someone in L.A. who will take me under their wings, but not finding any luck. I even contacted a few clown alleys and got no response from anyone. It was suggested to me that maybe they see me as possible competition. But I am not. I am looking to do this on a volunteer basis.
Any suggestions or referrals to local clowns would be greatly appreciated.
Squilly

Welcome aboard. It's nice to see someone who takes clowning so seriously and has studied the art intensely.
Perhaps there are some here who can help you get hooked up with the people in L.A.

Welcome to the Clown Forum! Good luck on finding a local mentor. But, also use the clowns on the forum as a resource when you have a question or idea.

Welcone to the Forum Squilly. What year did you attend NYG? A freind of mine attended about 3 years ago. Also what particular part of LA are you from? I know a entertainers out there but having visited I know just how large the greater LA area really is. Burbank, Downey, Santa Ana?
Also, I know that NYG has a rather "unique" style of teaching, and that it emphases a different mentality, more theatrical, that real world down in the birthday trenches type of clowning that most clowns deal with. What type of clown are you and do you have some basic skill sets, or would a mentor be starting from scratch? Just thinking of who I know and their different areas of knowledge and where you might fit.
