Hi Bri-O, and welcome to the forum!
I guess that one of the main things that you need to be a clown is a sense of humor. You've got to be able to laugh at yourself and make other people laugh with you.
There's my 2cents, I'm sure that a lot of the others here will have something more insightful than this to offer you, but its a start.
Have fun and learn lots!

Welcome to the Clown Forum! I think your question is a little too open ended to answer. Reading the old messages on the forum is a good place to start. If you have a specific question, such as "What color socks go best with green hair?" then ask away.
An outgoing personality, willingness to try something different and be silly are good starting points, but not required. A few magic tricks, jokes, or being able to make balloon animals can also be helpful, but once again not required skills.

Read this:
Avner the Eccentric - Clown Principles
about a dozen times. Then memorize it. Then imbue it. Then read it again. In Portugese. No, really:
Avner the Eccentric - Clown Principles Portgese
Repeat, then do the same starting in Hebrew:

In the advice from amazing clowns category, here is an interview with David Shiner where he talks about what he feels makes a clown.
Excerpt:
"At the core of the clown's character are the ultimate questions of life: Why am I here? Where do I fit in? Many people who go into clowning are trying to heal the world, but in fact they're just trying to heal themselves. By taking our deepest human weaknesses and making them funny, the clown confronts us with tragedy and suffering, but also with the fragile beauty of the world."
