Default Making a difference through care clowning

My name is Rojo and I just happen to come across your site and register to join. Just to introduce myself. I started part time clowning about 3 years ago after I heard over the radio one evening that a clown camp is in town. I took up the courage to sign up and be trained. It was truly an eye opening as I began to discover that the training also helps me in my work among children in church. After the training, a group of us came together to practice and then clown regularly in a children hospital. What is amazing is that the group of us comes from all walks of life eg teachers, maintenance technician, engineers, financial advisors, entrepreneurs, housewife and a houseman. All props and materials paid by ourselves without sponsorship.

I am a thin clown and thought I share some lessons to those thin clowns out there. Very important to remember NOT to stand sideways to face the audience. This is to ensure that they can always see you and not mistaken you as something else.
When I started, the audience either thought they saw a moving stick or a bamboo in the hospital. It might have scared the life of some children to see moving stick in the hospital . Now I face the patients directly, though occasionally I could hear them shout that they saw a moving cloth hanger :- ) Ha Ha Our motto as a caring clown group is to bring cheer to the children in the wards through humour, making fun of ourselves . Hope to learn more from all of you. Regards

Rojo

Let me see. Really thin, works in hospitals, and goes by the name of "Red." I'd be afraid people would mistake you for a thermometer.

Welcome to the Forum.

I am from Singapore. Attended a clown camp the Singapore in 2004 and learn from the experienced Caring Clown like Richard Snowberg, Bruce, etc. It was truly inspirational. Wish they are here again.
