Default Wanting to release the clown inside.

Hello, my name is Skooter. In real life my name is Dr. Robert Baer. I am a clinical psychologist in private practice in a rural town called Dickinsion, North Dakota. I'm originally from Harrisburg, PA. I have always wanted to become a clown. I have helped with the Shrine Circus since the age of 12 and been a member of the Shrine for years. I officially became a clown in 2002, while living in Salt Lake City when I join the El Kalah Shrine Clown Unit. I became know as 'Skooter' because of being in a wheelchiar as the result of a diving accident. I am a whiteface clown. My costume is pink long curley hair, rainbow top, and blue pants created for me by Pricilla Mooseburger. My wife, Susan, helps me with my make-up because of my disability. I still consider myself to be a rookie because I haven't had much opportunity to be Skooter. I'm still looking for that skit or joke that will work for me. I'm open to suggestions.

I think there are lots of skits and jokes that would work for you. Many clowns do not do the slapstick style of clowning because they either don't want to abuse their bodies or they don't want to damage their customer's house. How much movement do you have in your upper body? I have seen clowns with high mobility that put on a show just like a non-chaired clown (sometimes even better), I have also seen clowns with very limited mobility still participate in multi clown routines very effectively.

Do you have the dexterity to twist balloons? That's always a winner. Even if you can't, you can still joke around and let kids know about disabilities.

Welcome to the Fourm, Scooter!

I really am glad to see so many Shrine clowns joining the forum in the last few weeks! My Dad's Fred Baisch, and Osman Shrine clown in St. Paul.

Hope to hear more from you!
