Default Face Painting Newbie

Hello everyone!

I started face painting at my son's birthday party and have been hooked ever since. I really enjoy it because I'm very artistic as well as able to tranlate pictures and artwork to children's faces. I'd like to start promoting myself for local birthday parties but was not sure how to charge (i.e. per child, by the hour, etc.) In a street vendor type atmosphere, of course it would be per face, but just wasn't sure how to promote myself for private parties.

Welcome to the Clown Forum! Are you also a clown? I don't want to imply that you need to be a clown to be a face painter or to participate in the forum. You are welcome either way. One of the face painters I was talking to said that she is NOT a clown, but often has people ask her to come to the event dressed as a clown. She does, but it is more a clown costume than a clown personality.

Welcome to the Forum Chantel. Have you just recently started face painting then? If you are starting to think about marketing yourself you want to be sure you are using the right products. There are a number of brands of paints designed to be used for face and body painting, some examples are Snazaroo, Paradise (by Mehron), Wolfe Brothers, and Krylon. There are others but these are some of the most widely used in the US. By no means do you want to use acrylics or tempra (poster) paint. There have been some very serious reactions when these products have been used. Be sure to read through the Face Painting section of the Forum and visit The SNAZAROO USA home page - for face painters
