pessimism
It's obvious that the military is no place for a pessimist. Welllll it was this pessimist private's turn to learn the art of parachuting. The group went up in the plane and were given their instructions. "When you jump out, count to 5 and pull the rip cord. In case it doesn't work, pull the backup cord. When you land on the ground there will be some trucks there to take you back to the barracks." The poor private didn't believe any of it would work. So he jumped out of the plane, counted to 5, and pulled the cord. Nothing happened, as he suspected. Then he pulled the backup, and again nothing happened. And as he went sailing by, one of his buddies heard him say, "Yeah, I bet them trucks ain't gonna be there either".
