Default clown magic

This is for those of you who do magic in your shows... how do you make it clownish?

I already have some things in this department myself, (I am a master at pulling off my thumb, (then I make it disappear and pull it out of someones ear) and I have one card trick it looks like I mess up really bad on but don't) but I want to know what ya'll do and how you approach a magic trick. What is your favorite trick and how do you make it funny?

Here is a great example of clown magic...

Having connection fits tonight so i haven't watched the clip yet.

In order to make a trick funny I try do accomplish two things. One I let Fitzy out to play when I am learning and practicing the trick. He looks at things differently that I do as Dan. Secondly, I work on a good storyline. I have found some of the plainest, most boring tricks get fabulous reactions when 1) I enjoy performing them. and 2) when I have a good patter for the routine. (If I have a good patter line going I tend to enjoy the trick much more.)

I usually attack the maybe I messed it up angle. That seems to work and you get results.

Another thing I have done is to fail at the trick and then have my assistant form the audince help me and have it work correctly

There are two excellent, simple tricks that get a lot of reaction. For some reason, kids and adults alike, seem to love the Magic Coloring Book, but they go crazy over the vanishing ketchup bottle

You have to see that one to believe it

Yeah, it kills!

Look for Nielsen's Vanishing Ketchup bottle, coke bottle, beer bottle, etc. There is a huge line of them and it is very simple to do, it all about presentation/prestidigitation

Nielsen Magic - Vanishing Bottles - Page # 1: Beck's to Coca-Cola

I don't know what happened, but he seems to have changed the ketchup bottle, it used to be heinz, now it is not.

It is probably due to royalties. When it was Heinz they also sold replacement labels. I'm sure that somewhere out there some of the shops still have sets of replacement labels for sale.

Last I checked, LaRocks has Heinz labels for the ketchup bottles. As with them all - supply is limited - and may even be out already as I haven't checked in months as I changed out for the beverage bottle versions...

Default I Have A Magic Butt

No really. One of the tricks I picked up at the dollar store is a paper cube and a box just big enough to fit it. By removing the lid and replacing it on a different side, you can see what side of the cube your volunteer picked. It justs take a second behind the back.

Well, for a normal person anyway. But, I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time. I needed more time. What could I do to cover the motion?

Then, it came to me. I could rub the box on my butt. I just explain before the trick that I have a magic butt. As I rub the box on my butt I say such things as "Hocus Toochas!" and "Abraca Butt!". Kids really love it. It covers my clumsiness perfectly. Finally, it even distracts adults from the secret of the trick.
