FYI, Of course I had to try this out. I had 6 packets of Heinz Tomato ketchup (from IN-N-OUT Burgers) which all sank to the bottom of the bottle. I had 3 packets of Heinz tomato ketchup (from Carls Junior) which floated and worked perfectly when the capped bottle of water was squeezed.

Cool trick...

If I'm not mistaken it would depend on the size of the air pocket in the ketchup packet.

For what its worth: Diving Ketchup. The packets float or sink depending on whether or not an air bubble is trapped in the pacquet during the manufacturing process. I thought it was trippy that all of the Carls Jr. packets floated and all of the IN-N-OUTS sank.
When you sqeeze the bottle it squishes the air bubble inside the packet therefore increasing the density of the packet and it sinks.
I can't recall if this one of Mr. Wizards show stoppers, or Boyles pVk. I don't think it was from my Straight Arrow Ingenuity Cards...or was it. I don't know. Whatever, truly enjoy Gladmans interesting posts.

I think we need some kind of special award for the Gladman. He truly is the master of the odd. There it is, his new tagline "Gladman - Master of the Odd"
