Hot Rod Tricks
OK, so Friday when we went to LaRock's to stock up on balloons for the carnival I picked up a Hot Rod. Very cool. So over the weekend I got the basic switch from different colors to all 1 color. My question is what more can be done with a Hot Rod? I searched online this afternoon but was unable to come up with any videos or instructions for even the basic trick. I could only find places to purchase the Hot Rods or books & videos. I really don't want to place an order w/ LaRocks for only the book & have to pay shipping on just that 1 item. And it's gonna be a couple of weeks probably before I place another balloon order because of limited funds. So I wanted to see if anyone here could expand my use of the Hot Rod & give me something a little more entertaining.

I think it is probably mostly about patter and presentation and how you, perhaps, combine it in a routine with something more that provides a quasi storyline to the bit.
I have a couple hot rods, myself, but have rarely used them for exactly the same reason. How to make things interesting and workable is always a challenge which certainly keeps us growing, though.

I don't use mine that often in clown because I am usually going to fast. But I use it in person as a way to catch people's attention and let them know I am a family entertainer.
The Hot Rod is all about the presentation. It has been a few weeks since I have used mine and since I don't have it in my hands lets see if I can remember a little of my story.
I went into the store the other day to look for something special for my lady friend and the clerk brought out a tray something like this and showed me six different stones that I could have set in a number of custom jewlery pieces. The clerk flipped it around to show me how they glittered and explained that she was fairly new and didn't know the names of off the jewels yet. There was the Ruby, pirates loved the blood red color of the ruby. The Emerald is the stone of Ireland, it's beauty is unparalleled. There is the Diamond, everyone knows about the magnificence of the diamond. The Topaz, also called Tiger's eyes. These stones were highly valued in the orient. They were used in very special sculptures because of their mystical powers to see the soul. This light green one and the pink one I'm not sure of, so... Lets see what we can do to help you pick just the right stone for your "special someone" Since we don't know all the names of the stones why don't you pick a number between one and six.
The brain stopped. This post to be continued.

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately my creativity when it comes to patter is a negative...
So fitz, what color does your turn? Mine goes to that light green.
And what do you do when someone asks to make it change to a different color??

I have three. One turns ruby red, one turns diamond clear, and the third turns (I can't think of a Qualatex color to match) a green.
That is WHY I have three. When I am done I put it in my pocket and if they want a different color I pull out one of the other sticks.
I forgot to mention that I end my routine by leaving all the stones on one side the chosen color but I "turn" all the stones on the other side back to the various colors they were at the beginning. That way I can hand it out to be examined before placing it in my pocket.

As is the case with most magic tricks... I've never really understood how these so called "Hot Rods" work.

As is the case with most magic tricks... you are not supposed to until you buy the trick.

Ha! Funny you mention that. I was showing my 5 yr old twin cousins Saturday night and I would "turn" both sides back to multi color & hand it to one of them. When they flipped it the first time I said "you broke it", take it back, "change" both sides & hand it to them again. After doing this a time or two I told them they changed one side but not both so they must have half a magic touch. Chloe's response "I want a whole magic touch. How do I get all the magic touch?" I told her it comes with time & practice.
