Howdy Checkers,
Get you a Change Bag, I never leave home without it. Works great in several different scenarios and kids seem to enjoy it.

Change bags are awesome! so many uses. and so easy my 5 yr old cousin figured it out after close examination of the bag... so don't let any of your little audience members too close to it! Of course, she has half a magic touch anyway (see my post about the hotrods for that explaination) so I shoulda known better than to let her get too close! LOL I actually used it in my 3 & 4 yr old class for the first time Sunday morning & they loved it! We were talking about our friend Jesus loving the little children. So at the end of class I introduced them to my friend "Mr. Smiley" (from LaRock's - La Rock's Magic Page - "Sad to Happy Face silk") but Mr. Smiley wasn't happy. So I said let's give him a red nose & see if that makes him happy... well it didn't. So then I said I know what will make him happy. Let's introduce him to our friend Jesus!! & pulled out my Jesus silk. II put it in the bag w/ the sad Mr Smiley & on the count of 3 the kids all said "Jesus loves you Mr. Smiley" & he came out happy!! Then we had to come up w/ ways to make him sad again because they wanted to do it over & over to show their mommies & daddies!
I just realized that the link takes you to LaRock's main magic page. The Sad to Happy silk is under "Children's Magic".

I was going through a clown cabinet yesterday, and I have so many items that I've picked up and never use. I have TONS of coils -- hat coils, mouth coils, streamers.... Do they last forever? (I've had these for at least a few years). Any fun ideas of ways to incorporate these into my magic show?

Mouth coils are long, colorful paper streamers that are concealed in a small ball load. They call them "Mouth Coils" because some magicians pull them from their mouth. I don't like to encourage kids to put anything in their mouth, so I probably wouldn't do that. You could also pull them from a hat or pretend to pull one from a kid's ear. The hat coils can be placed in a hat, so when you turn it upside down they spill out. I think you just throw the streamers.
I'm looking forward to hearing creative, easy ways to use these. I get so used to performing the same tried and true tricks again and again that I forget about all this cool stuff I've picked up at conferences.

Edible napkins go with mouth coils pretty well. Some patter about being "odd" and eating paper or whatever - throw in a fake gag or cough - then get to the mouth coil. "Chaz" Misenheimer (magicbychaz.com) has a short but funny stage routine with coils (along with other magics) and is one of the best strolling magicians I've ever met - not simply because his magic (although it's well done), but he has a presence about him that really makes his show amazing...
More on beginning magic - get yourself a thumb tip. You may have to buy a few to find one you're comfortable with or several for various loads. I always have at least 2 (4 if you count the D'lites) on me... sometimes more than a half dozen for different uses and/or loads. Everyone should have a thumb tip at the very least...

Steve Bender just did a great one with a thumb tip and a empty bottle of water. I purchased it and have been having a ball doing it for my friends.
