I'm thinking of trying to find an improv troupe to audition for. I miss being surrounded by funny people who are original and on their feet.

Heh, reminds me of the time I wrote a Pastafarian version of Noah's Arc for a satire project. It upset all the fundies, but my teacher gave me a 100 :D He said he couldn't penalize me because I followed directions and I had freedom to speak my mind.

True enough. Well now I know, I'll be sure to keep my lack of beliefs to myself. Thanks for the advice, don't forget Sunday is International Zombie Awareness Day!

Wow, you think a forum of clowns would be less judgmental. I have enough problems being an atheist in the bible belt.

Also eh, I thought the concept of the church was cool. Around where I live, everyone goes to the same mega churches, and there is not much tolerance for the different.

You mean WWE is real? :P

I'm not sure if groans are supposed to be bad or silly. The other forum I used to be on only had a positive/negative rep system... and negative was bad.

I think that's very neat. I'm the same, in the sense that i dress brightly and flamboyantly, not for any particular reason but just because. The idea wandering, sharing your silliness and being a general fool like that is a lot of what drew me to clowning. I'd like to see more of your stuff, if you've got a webpage or something.

I enjoy the traditional style of clowning, too, greasepaint and all. I'll probably do a lot of the Mr. or Ms. Happy for children, because it's more lucrative than street performing in most cases. But i certainly don't want to limit my career to JUST that.
    10. Poopsie
Hello! I was looking at your pictures and i really enjoy your style. It seems like a sort of mixture of punk and hippie. I'm curious, what kind of venues do you perform at and what does your act consist of?

When I get out in the world of other performing artists, they regularly refer to the type of personality and clown often found here as "the scary clowns." I find myself between a rock and a hard place defending the sincerity and value of those who ARE respectable artists - or at least try - in this sort of clowning community, while having to simultaneously distance myself in doing what I can to prove individual worth to justify my own standing as something of a talented entertainer/artist which I hope they won't too easily dismiss just because I hang out with and have friends who I value in the wider clowning community.

The frequent lack of any real attempt at humor here is, indeed, distressing. But, then, too much of the nation (for some reason) finds Jay Leno entertaining - which should say something about the larger plague.
    12. tim
As for everything else, yes, yes, and yes. Too many people here don't know the first thing about what "clown" really is. And they probably won't get taught it at most of the educational events they attend, either. Even to the extent that kid's entertainment types might want to keep things "family oriented" (which is fine in its own right), too often the concepts of clown for these environments are, themselves, outdated and not in tune with what most of the best and most successful performers are actually doing to earn a living at it.

Harpoetta is neither a clown nor a performer. She is the daughter of a talented and funny magician/clown, which is the world in which she grew up and why she appreciates/is involved with the clown arts. She does have a sense of humor, but her personality type is much more "white face", so to speak. Since she is Fitz's girlfriend, she'll stand by him against all critique with her life. She's actually a very nice young woman. And I love her like a sister - which is why we always fight! If you follow her on facebook, she'll actually point to some worthwhile and funny stuff; and you'll see a bit more of her real personality in perspective.

The last person in England to be punished for blasphemy was John William Gott. In 1922, he likend Jesus Christ to a circus clown and received 9 months hard labour. He died that same year aged 56. These anochronist blasphemy laws were finally rescinded by Gordon Brown with suport from the Church of England on July 8th 2008. I now live with the fear of people likening me to Jesus Christ, without the law to protect me.
