I did a birthday party for a 5 year boy this Saturday. When I arrived, he was so scared that he wouldn't come out of his room. There were 2 other kids crying and the rest of the kids were running late. I thought to myself, "this is going to be fun", lol. Since the weather was nice, I suggested that we get everyone outside. I sat up my table near the front deck. As everyone was coming out, the birthday boy and the other kids slowly came out, mainly because the adults were there as well. I acted as though I didn't see them and began doing a little juggling. They seemed to like that OK. After a few more kids arrived, I began the show by doing more juggling and mixing magic tricks, jumbo props, and other silly things. At the end I gave out stickers and made balloons for all the kids. And At the end, the kids weren't afraid of me. It was a real joy to get the kids to think clowns are cool (which they are BTW, lol).

Well done, Darrell!
I'd say you handled it like a pro. I'm glad it went well for you.

Thanks to clowns like you guys, I have been able to learn a lot in a short time. I still have a lot to learn and hopefully will someday be able to help someone else just starting out.

I did a party similar to this, plus a language barrier. There were very few kids, adults nowhere in sight, and the birthday kid hadn't been woken up from his nap. There was a five year old girl, a four year old boy, a two year old boy, and a nine year old boy. The four year old was terrified so I called over his older brother (the nine yr old) and asked him to do me a favor. I handed him my business card and told him to tell his brother how in the picture I look really small, and now in person I look real big, just like the people on TV. He felt proud to deliever the message and then the other kids gathered around to tell him, too. The parents came over to see what the kids recieved so it was also a great way to get out my card discreetly in the party.
