Mike, whatever you do don't take any advice from Gilby The Clown.
HE HE H! Gilby needs a serious make-over.

Hey Gilby, maybe Ty Pennington can bring a bunch of clowns over to do a complete makeover in a week! The hard part is leaving your face with them while you go out of town...

We are all learning. No matter how many years you are clowning there will always be something new to learn and something new to try. Many of us have been more than one type of clown in our careers

Heh...yep...most of us start out as the "not-funny" type, then eventually learn to be the "funny" type. If you feel a need to work on a distiction between clowns - work on that one. Makeup is secondary, really.

ALWAYS work on the personality of your character first. Makeup is just a tool to make your face more expressive.

This weekend, I made my first attempt at clown makeup. I decided to go with a whiteface clown. Let me know what you think.

I like it! It's a good look and everything appears to fit the shape of your face. I am not a fan of the green; I think the eye marks would look better in black. But, I have no room to talk. It took me 20 years to get rid of the two blue tears that were on my face.
It looks really good! It's a good face to keep, and you can still experiment with placement of features.

That looks most excellent Mike! Very simple, but elegant. Nice job.

There is an old clown thoght that you never use either yellow, purple or green on your face, but this seems to work for you. (I think the "rule" only comes into play when you're filming....something about those colors doing weird things on video) I think the only thing I can say about using black might be that it will make you look more polished.

As far as design: The only small suggestion I'd make is two pronged and it regards the vertical accents under your eye. I'd suggest making the accents half as long, and going both above and below the eye.

The reasoning behind this is that your arches go up pretty high. High enough that they probably don't move when your raise your eyebrows. But it looks great and I don't want to lose that. So one texhnique to help add mobility to your expression is by adding those accents above. They will move whenever you do an expression such as surprised.

Here's what I mean.

I should add that this is just a little bit of thought from me. Don't change a thing if you don't want to.

(This is just a little photoshop cut and paste)

Wow! You look GOOD!! Are you just kidding about your first attempt? It looks VERY NICE! I wouldn't tell you that if I didn't think it. Way to go!!
