Red face Chalk Talks or Drawing

Has anyone ever used chalk talk drawings when clowning? Or any kind of entertaining with drawings? Since I can draw, I was thinking this might be a good avenue to take when doing Care Center visits, but how do I get ideas of what to draw. I can't walk up and say "want me to draw you a picture", I need an opening of some kind to get it going, any ideas of how to start? Has anyone ever seen any books where you make pictures from alaphabet letters? I vaguely remember seeing some place over the years, where someone asked your name, then drew the first letter of your name and turned it into some kind of picture. Any thoughts, ideas or help along this line would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for any replies. Clickers

I also am interested in Chalk Talks. I have not tried any yet but I have purchased a couple of books by Ralph Dewey that explains the basics and provides a few routines. Ralph's "stuff" is readily available and the booklets are in the $5 range. If you need a link or two just give me a shout and I'll add a post.

In July the Fellowship of Christian Magicians will be holding their big annual convention in Marion Indiana and they have a number of classes on Chalk Talks. I am assuming there would also be published information.

I sent a message to you, not sure if I did it correctly. I'm slightly technology challenged in some sites. It's my age ya know. I discovered Dewey by accident when I was searching the internet today. I sent for the catalog he offers. Have you done any chalk talk drawings when you've been out and about entertaining? If so, how did it go? I'm worried about the pitter-patter talk to do with the. What are you drawing on, large or small paper. I was thinking along the lines of a small pad that I could put right in my pocket and hand out as I go around the Care Center. Are you using pen or ink?
Thanks so much for replying to my post

What is Chalk Talk? I did a little surfing on it but only came up with some info about student writing opinions on a chalk board.

I have a gag not placed in any shows yet where two of my silent characters argue using the silent film cards out of context. I haven't explored the possibilities of it indepthly yet but Chalk Talk sounds like it could be a great thing to look into.

Hey Snickers, Hopscotch here! Some one had mention to me that there is a book at the local library they had seen with the letters of alphabet and art work for each one. I would try my local library I bet you'll find something there. Maybe they can search the records and borrow from another Library ,if they don't have it in house.I think that is a great idea especially considering my name and all. I should be the expert on chalk stuff. Toodles Hopscotch

Chalk talks from what I understand, an artist, and I use that term lightly, draws a drawing while telling a story, clown pitter patter talk. I think the drawings are drawn one way but upside down become another picture. I just ordered a book by Dewey, sorry can't remember the full name, he has several out on Chalk Talks. If you want me to send you an email when I get it, I can let you know at that time. You can reply to my email address. I think you can get it from this site, if not, let me know and I'll post it.

It can also be taking one drawing and turining it into another. I want to do more myself. I was taught the one for the 10 commandments and in it I take the different # and turn them into a picture that describes that commmandment. I only do this one when I'm at churches or church type activities ie vbs, or fundraisers. One book I have is "Gospel Draw & Tell" by David & Elaine Cole their website on the book is Children's Ministry Resources, Teacher Training, Puppets, Skits, Stories, Object Lessons for Sunday School and Children's Church
