Prop or Cane
This old clown needs some assistance when walking, especially if carrying anything. I have taken to using a cane for long distance walks. Any ideas of how to dress up a cane as a prop? I need the darn thing for walking, so wouldn't be able to do one of those cute Chaplin walk arounds with the cane off the ground.
I'm also thinking of using a small cart to haul mystuff around, that would be a prop to hold me up. Any suggestions on how to decorate it simply and with things I could remove easily and wash. My clowning is done mostly one to one at a local Care Center.
Thank you for any and all suggesions that might get posted.
Faithful reader of the forum.

Around Christmas time it could be a candy cane, maybe a magic wand the rest of the year.

If you need the cane for support, you might want to check out your local medical equip. supply. I don't know if you can still get them but at one time there was a company that would custom make lucite [sp?] canes and when forming they would put all kinds of things in, we got one for a young girl with glitter and jellybeans put inside. Other wise maybe looking at a wooden one that you could paint. I don't know what one would cost but the mini shopping carts, [our foodlion just got them] they can still hold alot but are more compact, could be decorated but small enought to assist almost like a rolling walker.

I've posted this before, but you could tie a rubber fish (found at your local costume/novelty shop) to it. You now have a "CANE POLE".
As far as decorating your cart, I have used a metal trash can with castor wheels (I bought 'em at Walmart) mounted on the bottom to easily enter and exit an event. Since I was a Hobo Clown at the time, I tied on a railroad lantern, some bandannas and attached a roll of stickers with some rope to the sides.

Clickers,
Have you thought about a rascal Scooter? You could transform it into a Clown car of sorts. I realize they do not come cheap but It might be the best long term option. On the cane, take a toilet plunger cup and put it on the bottom, cut a hole through it so you can raise it up hight enough you can still put the tip on it and use it without difficulty.
Just a thought,
Cheers,
Scruffy

Wow lots of good suggestions. You could also get one of those walker carts with a basket on it and decorate it.
Pattycake has a hard time walking in parades, I got an old baby stroller and fixed it up, she puts her orangatang puppet in it and wheels it in the parade using it for support, I also ran some fishing line down the handle and attached it to the orangatangs hand so he can wave hi to the crowd.
