Default Make-up

I am just beginning to think about my make-up design. I was looking on a few websites to purchase some, and saw so many different types and brands. My face is not all white. I need a little white, and some blue and black. (I don't know if they are in crayon form.) Please advise if there is a beginners set I can purchase, and what brand it is. Thank you very much!

Larock's sells a kit that comes with enough paint to try out several different faces and has pretty much all the colors you'll need to complete your look.

Clown Make-Up Kit

Mehron’s Clown Kit offers full-color instructions along with our Clown Makeup Palette. Comes in a handy and reusable carrying kit that keeps your makeup neat and clean. Contains all colors necessary for Whiteface, Auguste and Tramp/Hobo clowns.

$11.95 at Larocks. It's pro quality make-up so you're good for performances. This kit will allow you to play with several different faces without buying cram you wont need later. Once you decide on a face, it'll be cheaper to buy the color cups as you need.

I personally like Mehron, but each clown has his preference and there are likely just as many here who will like Jom Howle, or Ben Nye, or Pro Face - I'd try them all out over time and find something you like...

The Mehron kit will get you started. The pallet with the tiny molded cups are a pain though. If you can do it. The best way is to buy a small clown white. a Color cup of red and a black pencil. You might also want to add a small auguste shade for a flesh tone, If you plan on doing an auguste character. Yes, it will cost a little more. But, you won't have to worry about contaminating your other colors. My wife bought the Ben Nye three color wheel (Red, White black) it is a big pain to keep the colors out of the other compartments.
You can set your makeup the old fashioned way with baby powder. Buy the stuff without cornstarch. the ingredients list should say something to the effect of Talc, and fragrance. AND NOTHING ELSE.

Mehron and Ben Nye are to two brands you are most likely to find. Either are good. In fact, I use a little of both.
Good Luck.

clown white is a must. But you can get color make-up pencils at the dollor store. They will do while you are deciding. You powder then just like the others. Try and get main brand name. They often have mabaline and lorel. Some people who are not use to make-up have an easier time with pencils for the lines.

LaRock's is great. I order most everything from them. I don't kow much about the make-up as I'm fairly new to clowning myself. But I can tell you this, I ordered a pack of the grease crayons & never use them. That so far is the only thing I've ordered that I dont' get any use out of.

Why pencil form if I may ask?

I've never cared much for grease crayons and the like. A fine tip brush can do anything a pencil can do - heat the grease just a tad to get it into a paint form if need be (which it rarely is). Generally the brush will hold the make-up fine without any alterations...

Some people are just more comfortable with a pencil. It is something they are use to having in their hands.
I also use some pencils because the red lip liner stays on better than grease. I learned that after some very long days in Texas sun. A good quality one like loreal (which their red and mehron red match perfectly) will last all day.
