Ok. I just want to kind of get an idea of what most clowns use for all different types of clowns.
I still can't decide what type of clown I want to be............arggg
thanks for the help.
Is anyone two different types of clowns? Like whiteface and Auguste?
Thanks!

Makeup
Lots of great ideas. Professional grade clown makeup is a must. Whatever you get....don't get too much because as you learn and grow you will begin to experiment and develop preferences. I've changed my face 3 times since I began clowning......and changed my makeup at least that many times. I've finally found my "perfect blend" but that's not to say it won't change. Our skin is constantly changing, too.
Just like ladies cosmetics.....products continue to improve and change so don't feel "locked-in" to whatever you start with.
I personally use Ben Nye Cream makeup. For my colors, I prefer grease pencils. They're easier for me to work with.
For the Auguste I sometimes use Ben Nye Cream....and sometimes powder. Both Ben Nye and Mehron have some theatrical powders that are highly pigmented that look and feel GREAT.
With any clown makeup...powder is your friend. Be sure to press it in firmly all over.
I think Bubba Sikes has a good DVD available on makeup application ( Bubba's Clown Supplies: clown makeup, comedy magic, Fun item)
Have fun playing....and good luck!

SaphireSue is a white face clown, She is the leader of the group, takes on the straight/or more serious parts of the skits in our productions,
Sallybangs is an auguste, country western type, silly, gets in trouble from time to time, like when she forgot to water the pig pen and with the drought down here all the pigs got stuck.
I use ben, nye cream for white in both faces, the pencils for detail, and poweder for th auguste color instead of the cream.
Bubba's video would be great, He's critqued SaphireSue's face for me.

Thanks! Should I get the sticks or crayons? Which ones work better? Which are easier to use? Thanks a ton.
Thing is, there are no other clowns around that I know of so I probably won't be doing any skits (at least not until I can get someone els interested) .
I was wandering what type of clown are the ones that have animal acts? Like the dogs, and horse acts with clowns in them?
Thanks!

check out Bubba's Clown Supplies: clown makeup, comedy magic, Fun item I get the use the liner pencils, also checkout his deluxe lite auguste kit, I think it's a great price and you get every thing you need to start out if your doing an auguste face and will go a long way. To me it's cheeper than ordering single items for the first time and things like pencil sharpner people forget they need until it's time to sharpen.

I like the Mehron pencils the thinner ones, they are great for outlining and touch ups.
I buy my makeup and just about everything from Clown Supplies - Your complete clown supplier Mary(sunshine) owns that company she is a clown with me, and I know for a fact she has great prices and is easy to deal with. She sells alittle bit of everything not costumes or shoes but she has a great selection of makeup, socks, gloves, toys, tricks, etc..........and if you go there click on the link that says River City Clowns and you can see some of my friends that I love clowning with, my picture is on there too(smile)

My favorite is the Jim Howle white because it's so creamy and easy to apply.

For my whiteface clown I use Mehron clown white for my white. For my colors, I prefer regular eye shadow around my eyes, and Graftobian theatrical makeup everywhere else.
For my Tramp I use all Mehron.
I dislike makeup pencils and find that brushes are less hassle and give me exactly what I want every time. For powder, I have tried many kinds, but because of the quantity I need I almost always just buy the cheapest baby powder I can find.
Professional Clown makeup is inexpensive and very easy to use. If you are trying to figure out your face, just buy a color assortment package, a jar or white, cheap baby powder, and a bottle of mineral oil. It's gonna knock you back maybe 20 bucks. Just go here:

I have a big thing of shower-to-shower. Will that work okay for powdering? How do y'all apply your powder? I read somewhere that and you can put it in a cotton sock and tie a knot at the top and powder your face with it, but I would think that it would get all over the house, car, box you store it in, or like anywhere you put it.
Do some of you just apply it with your hands or what?!!
Just out of curiosity....
What kind of clown are the ones that have the dog and pony acts?
Thanks!

Yes, you can put it in a sock, but I prefer to use one of those el cheapo makeup puffs to apply it. Just dump some in a bowl.
And shower to shower would probably work. Try it and see what happens
