Magic and balloons sound great. Do you know their ages? If they small maybe bubbles, music, like the chicken dance an hokey pokey that sort of thing. Adopting 4.. do they speak english, if not maybe a welcome sign you can produce in both english and their native language to make them feel welcome. (4 made me think it could be a foreign adoption)

A smile, a wave, a hug, and a rubber chicken always work for every nationality.

I think that mime works well with people of all languages. You can get 5 minutes out of one and is just good old physical comedy. I use a flip cart to announce the Act (ie The Golf Game...The Door...etc) and you could have the family put it in the vernacular or the children.

We must all suffer for our art at times! LOL! J/K. Sounds like you had a great time too. One of the many perks of being a clown!
