Default The Smile Challenge

I’ve been trying something really hard today! I figure that if it’s possible to do exercises to improve your posture and straighten your back, then it’s probable that you can train your facial muscles so you have a natural, permanent smile?

It’s soooooo hard! I’m a happy person who frequently laughs and smiles, but it’s exhausting to smile none stop! You know when you laugh so much that your cheeks hurt, well that’s what it feels like!

You guys try it …….. Keep a BIG smile on your face none stop!

I have tried it. I did that some in High school after reading "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnagie. There is a whole chapter on the importance of smiling. It does hurt after a while, and when it does the strain of trying to keep it up shows in your eyes, and the rest of your body, which ofcourse undermines the genuiness of the smile.

What you really want is fluidity in your face. You want to be able to change expressions on command and in a big way. Get in front of a mirror and play.

If you smile all the time, the smile won't mean anything. Even when you are extremely happy, the smile will flicker or disapear, and come back again as thoughts occur to you or as you are asked questions like "Why are you smiling?"

A thing I like to do is smile with my eyes. I think it means more.

Also, I had jaw surgery in High School, and most of my lower face was numb for a few weeks. It really really hurt when people made me laugh. So I had a lot of fun working on my stoneface. But going and seeing "Toy Story 2" just about killed me.

I've been trying this for awhile, but my face always get so tired. I guess it's just a conditioning issue.
