Default Clown Makeup question

Don't know if this is the right place in the forum for this question (sorry if it's not). I met a gal a my church who said she might be interested in trying to be a clown with me to do nursing home ministry, etc. She knows even LESS than I do about clowning, and that's saying a lot! My question is: her skin is fairly dark (pardon the pun). Do you suggest any certain type of clown makeup for a dark skinned person? I would think that whiteface should be out (too drastic). Some sort of auguste? But even the flesh tone would be pretty drastic on her. Any suggestions, or can you point me to pictures of dark skinned clowns? Thanks!

When using make up you can alway mix colors. Try finding someone that sales Ben Nye in your area that have sample pallets and see about mixing some colors that look good on her.

Thanks, Lily. But there's no outlet anywhere near me (at least not within 100 miles). I buy all my supplies online.

lol Now knowing that I am not sure you might want to ask Buttons41 or I will ask her for you she might have something that might help. She knows a bit about make up.

I remember seeing a post here on makeup for African American clowns. It was in the last month so you shouldn't have to back track to much. That may help a little.

Though I suspect that there ought to be colors available for someone with darker skin (after all people in theater need it) I don't see why there is a need to use auguste tones if it would prove too drastic. Just leave the skin naturally exposed where necessary.

She can use her normal people make up. That way it will blend with her skin. I have known dark skined clowns who do white face, and august clowns that use the light skin toned make up and completly cover their own skin. There is nothing wrong with that. But I also had a friend who used her own skin color and just used regular make up. She looked great. She designed a face that was very big and bold, I think that worked well with the contast of color.
I will try and attach a pic of us.

Go to a theatrical makeup supplier. I know that Ben nye makes a multitude of flesh shades and I'm sure Mehron does also. Auguste would likely be the easiest. But If They want to do whiteface, It can be done.

The main thing I would add is to use the brighter orange based reds instead of the darker blue based reds. Also there is nothing wrong with mixing white with your colors to produce light blues and pinks for you designs.
