Hi there Suzie Qzie ... what a cute name.
If you want to make your costumes ... if you want the baby doll style, look for vintage nightgowns or vintage maternity patterns!
If you want the frilly crinoline style, look for square dance dress patterns. I use pieces from about 6 different patterns.
There is also a Ringling Brothers pattern but it's very hard to find.
I have bought from Mooseburger and also Betty Cash, and they are both excellent. I like to make my own, though, because I like lots of variety, and I also love to sew.
A good place to buy patterns (and fabric) ... check ebay ... eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Also, watch for sales in sewing places for when the patterns go on sale. Otherwise they can run pricey ... around $10 - $15 per pattern, but when they are on sale, sometimes you can get them for as little as 99 cents.

Clown Overalls
My partner sews and she started with a "maternity" pattern for overalls. You add contrasting ruffles and pockets, plenty of bright "piping" in all of the seems. Large buttons, etc. She then took a solid color long-sleeve t-shirt that matched her colors. Added a matching collar and bow and matching cuffs! Beautiful costume!
Don't forget LINING is your friend! It may seem like it would make it heavier, but it actually makes it cooler and the costume lasts longer. Looks crisper. It actually keeps the costume from sticking to you in the heat as well.
Good luck!

Bubbles and I have found wonderful costumes on Ebay. If you do a search for Professional Clown or Pro Clown, you will get results. Bubbles has a costume from Faye's Designs, and one from Sonhotropical. Both of my costumes are from Sonhotropical.
Photos are on our website.

I make all of my costumes. The patterns are just a guide line. I have made some cut overalls out of some huge pants from the 80s and a raggedy Anne makes a cute costume. I am making a dress out of a full gypsy skirt and a vest. Its all in how you look at them.

I've been working on a clown jacket - first stop was the fabric store where I found some wonderful fabric. Then I found a pattern for a men's jacket. Took that home, worked out the sizing. Cut the fabric a bit larger than the XL size and started sewing.
I'm going to add extra lapels and I made the cuffs bigger and put in some other extras. I'd think it would be easier to make a dress than a jacket, but who knows.
I've spent about $40 on fabric and trim, some of which was excess. I've never sewn anything before and it's surprisingly easy!

Thanks to all of you so much for dealing with my questions that have probably been answered a million times in the past years. I try to look for my answers in past posts as to not ask duplicate questions, but I may overlook sometimes. Thank you Thank you , Thank you.

My first coustume was a mickey Mouse pattern and I just picked out the matiral in the colors that I wanted and ended up with a tails coat with differant colors lined pants put on a differant color t shirt each time and it worked great, until it wore out and now I seravel pair of pants that will go with that Blue Tails coat and Miss-Me has now made me a new tails coat in blue and yellow lapel and red cuffs and the pant has hot air balloons on them.
Just find you a style of pattern that you like and add your colors to it.
Good Luck and God Bless
