Default Female Clowns

Do they have a specific name or are they just plain old regular 'Clowns'?

Cheers

That's a good question Cyclops, I have heard the term "clownette" but I think the generic term clown is more appropriate.

Default female clowns

in english there is not a difference but there is in spanish

A male clown is payaso

A female clown is payasa

To make the female clown sound cuter you say payasita

In any case clowns are like chefs--the most famous are men--Bozo,Emmet Kelly,but--who does most of the cooking?? You got it,women.

it's a man's world--but it's a woman's universe!!

Sorry Cyclops, I just found it

For years it was thought that clowns should be genderless or essentially, All male type . I don't agree.

Hey Cyclops. I would also think of clowns viewed in a genderless term. I guess it may be how you would be applying it. If a generalization I would think genderless all the way. If addressing whether a clown is required to be male or female (say upon hiring) then probably female clown or male clown, or say girl clown or boy clown. I have had my wife perform with me before when a customer asked for a boy and girl clown. Hope that helps but maybe you could add a little to why inquiring? Red Clown Fred - A True American Clown

Way back in the day theater and clowns were all male actors. Thank goodness we live in these times

To me the word "Clown" is still genderless.

Are clown male or female? Or do they just dress in male and female style clothing?

Now known as Goofie the clownman
