Hi,
I'm in Ga and interested in becoming a clown. I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know of schools or seminars to check into. I would appreciate any info. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome, Traci!
You'll have the time of your life, and there are folks here who can
help you get started. This is a great resource.
Priscilla Mooseburger has a clown camp each year (and some where
their staff travel to other cities). www.mooseburger.com
There are others as well, but that is the one I'm familiar with.
Check out the COAI (Clowns of America, International) www.coai.org
They're an organization to join and get a bi-monthly magazine. They
also can tell you if there is a "Clown Alley" in your area that you can
join. That will give you access to some mentor clowns.

Welcome to our Cyberalley!
Hello Traci!
Welcome to the world of greasepaint and funny shoes
Ashes advice is right on. Also check your library out. I got started right there in the public library, there were books about clowning and I read them voraciously. I was a teen when I started clowning and since our small town had a clown club in the 4-H program, I got involved there too.
A neat place to check out online is www.clown-ministry.com they have a lot of info on clown history, famous clowns, skits, and info on different clown types. also You are more than welcome to hang out here with us. read through the archives, and maybe take a few notes. Ask us any question, even if it's been asked before!
Park your Kiester (Costume trunk) in the corner and make yourself at home!

Howdy Traci,
If ya want a really fun time learning from some of the funniest, Come to Louisville, KY, October 7,8,9th for the KY Clown Derby. This years featured performer is Leon "Buttons" McBride and the theme is WESTERN! WAHOOO!
Ya can't go wrong here as the staff at the KCD is one of the best around. Steve Kissell is one of the funniest public speakers/performers in the biz.
And ya get twice the stuff for the price of one convention as the Group I belong to, the RED NOSE RANCH is hosting an after hours sessions once the KCD ends for the day.
Check it out at,,,,
www.rednoseranch.com/roundup
the KCD website
www.magicalwizard.com/kentucky_clown_derby.htm
What better way to end 2005 than a Western themed Clown convention???
Hope to see ya there!

Welcome Traci,
I have been "preparing" to be a clown for nearly 5 months. I went to just one weekend seminar and it was very helpful. But this website has taught me sooooo much more! You can spend a fortune quickly on clown props and other clown stuff and only use half of it. Also, if you have a job and a family it is hard to prepare. IMO, you should just take your time and work on your character to begin with and go from there.

Good points Darrell!
Traci, I would suggest trying to establish a character that has a lot of your civilian traits (non-clown). You will find that routines flow a lot easier as opposed to being a character that is completely opposite of your personality. The more you have to force your clowning the less natural you come across. I always enjoy that clowns have the unique opportunity to "foul" up and still incorporate it into their routine. A like to keep a sponge hammer with me so I can hit my head to "knock some sense" into it when I make a boo-boo! Good luck and the Clown Forum is always here for you! Red Clown Fred
