Sassafras Is in the House
Howdy, All. I'm Sassafras.
I'm a baby clown, just getting started in the biz. I haven't even got my costume made yet, although it's in the works.
I am wife to the infamous Scruffy and mother to our brood of three blooming clowns. Actually, the two older kids had their clown persona's before I had mine. My profile will give you my interests-n-stuff.
The Scruffmeister actually convinced me to give clowning a try. And it's a chance to goof off without feeling embarrassed. I'm kind of shy around strangers and self-conscious. I'm hoping that clowning will help me overcome that.
C U 'round.

Welcome, Sassafrass!
Glad to have you 'round these parts!
Scruffy is THE MAN around here, so you have
the inside track to all his knowledge.

Welcome
I am new to this also and I feel very similiar to you.
The one thing I have noticed is the more I do clowning the
more I enjoy it and the less self conscious I am. It is like
other jobs in a sense that at first you are not comfortable with
it, and it takes time to feel confident. For me it is worth getting
past some of the obstacles and staying with it. Good luck

(scuffs toe in dirt and blushes a deep red) Awww, thank you my big, strong, handsome Scruff.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I hope to make some new friends here and learn some valuable things about clowning. I have a lot to learn.

Welcome Sass!!! You are one lucky Newbie! Scruffy has the low down on EVERYTHING to do with clowning. Jamz may be the experienced guru, but I feel Scruffy's the most well-rounded...and I don't mean his tummy.
As for shy, I was that way too when I started clowning. I found clowning was a way to let the inner person come out in an environment that was somewhat safe to try. You see, it is okay if clowns make mistakes. We can just work them into our routine. I have a few gags that I basically play on myself, like losing an item and having it velco'd on my back. This is kinda of reassuring to use as a stall tactic as you try to gather your thoughts, say after a skit/gag didn't come out right.
I'm sure Scruffy has it down for the In-N-Outs. Besides, not all of us can perform with a seasoned veteran as our spouse. Maybe I should try convincing my wife!
Keep us posted on some of your first attempts with the "strangers" - friends you haven't meet yet!

I dunno Fred,
I always looked forward to see what Jamz and Ashes have to say. I learned bushels from them. Everybody else too. I've always felt that when you stop learning, you stop growing

I'm quite fortunate that my wife has joined
in clowning with me. We've had a lot of fun
so far (just beginning!!!!) and we make a great
team.
I'm sure you and Scruffy will do the same, as
would RedClownFred and Mrs. RedClownFred if
she ever decided to join in...
I also find that I am slipping into a different personality
as I put on Ashes' makeup. The "real world" part of me
starts to let go and the inner clown in me starts to come
out.
What's funny is AFTER I've taken off the makeup, I still
catch myself wanting to wave at kids and folks in other
cars like I do while in character -- but then its' "What
IS that idiot doing?"
