ideas anyone?
does anyone have any ideas on advertisement. i had some nice buisness cards made and have been giving them out, and some flyers printed . i went to party supply places and birthday cake and supply buisnesses and asked if they would hang them up or post them.
i know word of mouth is most often the best, but is there any other places that would be good target areas.

Flyers and business cards at Day Care, Libraries too.
List your number in the yellow pages. Contact other types of family entertainers and see you can net work, I had one lady here who used to do petting zoos, I got several jobs from her and in return when some one wanted another idea I would suggest her. There's also a guy here who rents out his own moon walk and we've discussed doing the same thing.

One thing I learned at the Kentucky Clown Derby. Use professonal business cards. I'm quilty of making my own on the computer, I thought they looked good, but there really is a difference in the type of card stock they use and color options etc. make you card unique. And if possible a picture of your clown
I used to list a lot on my card, balloon, skits, face painting etc. The instructor suggested to keep it simple and not list what you do specifically, because many will read and think will that's all he does so he doesn't do school shows, day care shows etc. [It's impossible to list every type of venue you can work in and by listing you limit yourself to only those listed unless the person takes the time to call] I honestly had never looked at it this way, I thought the more I listed the bettter. Mind you these are my instructors suggestions but I thought I'd pass it along.

Hey Skeebo!
Yes pro business cards are a must. Also, look into getting some good black and white phots taken and get them run off for promo purposes. The main thing you need to do is get your show down tight. Everything paced, practiced, and all the jokes timed out perfect. What you might try doing is going to stores that carry party supplies and see if you can put up some flyers. If you want to show them what you do, you might think about going out in costume to deliver the stuff. Also, have a few gags down for performance while you're there. Tell them you are new to the area and what you do, ask if they have a referral program. Check flower shops for deliveries. A local magic shop has given us a referral. Also, Sassy and I do a lot of volunteer clowning, which has led to party work.
... I guess, my best advice is get you there, be the best clown you can be. Work constantly to be the best clown that you can be. From the tip of your head to the big pointy shoes, Keep improving you skills. Get out in the community, and stay in the public eye so they know you are out there.

Have something that displays your name, ex. a sign on your prop box with your name. Sallybang's vest has her name on the left shoulder and a cartoon color picture on the back with her name. That way people know my name without asking and they constantly have it in front of them when I'm performing, helps them to remember who I am.
