Smile Puppets

Who uses puppets in their show? I just ordered one it should be here early next week and I've been practicing some vent skills...she hasn't come yet and already I'm in love with this development, wondering how I ever performed without one.

Default Rabbits

Rabbits are my faveourite animal but are overdone in my opinion. Use something original and a kids parties throw in puns that their parents would 'get'

I do puppetry, but not in the traditional sense.

I use to do shadow puppet theater in my old troupe of street theater performers. Myself and another stiltwalker would carry a make-shift screen (large white fabric rolled up on rods). We'd set up by walking away from each other and unrolling the screen - where the puppeteers and prop hands would take place.

Usually do a short-ish routine with some lights or fire source projecting the puppets on the screen. Voice actors and noise makers and all - pretty fun, but hard to get people to get involved in street theater anymore.

I also occassionally do giant puppets in parades. Big paper mache' heads and wardrobe on top on my stiltwalking can make for some big puppets.

Finally, I'll get a volunteer from the audience sometimes. Instruct them to be my puppet by opening their mouth every time I touch their neck - but not saying anything. I try to find the "big burly" types and do some ventriliquism with a high pitched voice or some such nonsense...

Sometimes I use puppets. Usually not for birthday parties, unless I have some time left over, but for Sunday School groups. The puppet can actually teach the Bible lesson.

I have a bird (she's on my website) back in 1997 who I named Frenchie. She doesnt talk (YET I am really wanting to learn now!) but she loves pizza, curly fries and hair!. The kids love her when I use her at fairs and walk around gig's. I have a "binky" for her and a little dress so the little kids can relate. I also have a monkey that is in a banana that I picked up at a restaurant called "the rainforest cafe" just south of Seattle. The monkey looks real! I pull it out at birthday parties when I have a child who's 'afraid' of me.
