[quote=Artsy;80889]Hi Chatters:

Now, see-- I didn't ASK if they wanted a trial night-- I said WHAT NIGHT do they want a trial night?

Again,
I didn't ASK IF they were going to advertise, I asked HOW they are GOING TO advertise.

Try to never ask a question that can easily be replied with a YES or NO. It's a trap door. Don't get stuck in it.

Thanks! I will try to go by in person. Everything sounds easy...except the part I quoted above. I hate pushy sales people and I personally will come much closer to buying things if the salesman will just show me what he has to offer and then back off and let me think it over until I've made a decision. However, I have noticed that (as annoying as they may be) the pushy type do always get more sales. I just want the restaurant to hire me because they are interested, not because of guilt or just to shut me up (of course, that's better than not at all ) Also, since most of these places have huge signs saying " NO SOLICITING!" then I am a little hesitant to go in and appear pushy or as though I am harrassing them. However, they DID seem truly interested, so as long as I was polite I don't think they would mind the second visit at all. I know I need to learn to be more persistent...but this is definently my weak spot. I am certainly not shy, but I get nervous being persistent because of fear that they will think I'm being rude.

Oh dear, you have the fear of fear.

Firstly, you are not soliciting. You are following up on a promotional entertainment campaign to help them get more business. You are so fortunate that you got in the back door and managed to talk about your clowning as a customer and not a solicitor! Consider this your first conquest! All because you were there eating a meal. See how easy it is?

You are there to help THEM with THEIR business. You are not there to build up your business. It's this frame of mind to stay in. YOU ARE HELPING THEM. As long as you keep this in mind, the conversation will go well.

Default Update

Here's the newest family restaurant gig I landed by going in to eat as a breakfast guest and talking to the owner without any brochures or business cards to rely on.

Last Thursday was my first appearance and the owners were very impressed with everything and asked if we could agree on making this a regular weekly thing. They said that they were going to have a sign made. Last night (week #2) I pulled into the parking lot and saw this wonderful signage. WoW, I was so surprised!

I had a nearby landscaper take my picture but I'll make sure I get a better one next week with me holding my giant paintbrush and palette, but wanted to share this with you for now.

The yellow wording on it says SILLY SOUP SPECIALS SERVED BY ARTSY. It coordinates with a play on restaurant wording on my laminated table menu info:

Stop by the
Face Painting Buffet
for Your Choice of
Over 50 Colorful Selections

I have a large serving bowl with a ladle in it and I walk around the restaurant offering some of my "Silly Soup", which this month is facepainting, Next month is balloons, then following that is table magic, etc...

I love clowning around at this restaurant~!

Oh my goodness...if you only knew how shy I am when I'm not in costume! I am not a hard sell, as my advice in this thread may sound, because it's difficult to convey tone of voice in writing on the forum. I am pretty soft spoken when I talk to them, but i DO talk with them with the inner attitude that it's not the end of the world if they turn me down. What's the worse that can happen? They say no? Big deal. That's what makes me try. It's like I am double-daring myself to try just to see what the outcome is. Go to another restaurant and ask. And ask and ask until someone says yes.

Just try! And everyone who gets a YES, please post and share your success!

Wow, that is a big surprise. I would go back and tell them you need more money now that you are on their banner.
