Thanks for the great thread! I've gotten some great ideas but I'd like some more suggestions...
I'm wondering about converting a trunk, putting some holes in the four corners at the base so I can stick some 1" dowels in the bottom so it'll stand up like a table once I set it up. Has anyone else done anything like this? I might be better off just setting it on the ground.
One thing I noticed about the trunks is that they could potentially be a life-size, finger chopper for little fingers. Some of them have a bracket that locks the lid into place somewhat but if not you'd better keep the kiddoes back just in case that lid falls.

Instead of the dowel rods you might think about buying a set of replacement folding legs (the kind for the 3 X 8 foot banquet tables) because they lock and are metal you would have to worry as much about them giving way and everything collapsing. They also could be layed flat against your box for travel. If you want one of those braces to lock the top of your box up and yours doesn't have one (or not a good one) check with the cabinet department at Lowes or Menards, Home Depot (had to be fair) they have some good ones that aren't too expensive.

Actually Dan, I was thinking about insetting the dowels, more like legs from a bar stool INTO the trunk. Hopefully that wouldn't collapse on me haha! My hobo persona needs something that kinda looks compact but usable. Maybe I just need to leave the trunk on the ground.

In the thread on Storage, I have a link to MagicbyChaz.com .
In his photo album, he has a footlocker that he uses (I got to see it in person last year and it's nice). He has a box that acts as his magician's table (felt covered), that stores inside the locker while roving. He can stop, set the locker on end, pull out the box and set it on the end of the locker where he then has a nice table.
He stores his smaller props (cards, coins, sponges, etc) inside the table/box, so it seems convenient.

Ok so maybe it is a little older than that... and technically I didn't buy it... a grandparent of mine did. lol
I have a feeling I meant to say "Over ten years ago" instead of "Almost ten years ago"

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!
Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!

Ok I am interested I picked up a stand up trunk at an action for 25.00.. This trunk its perfect it is a light weight 1928 it formed light weight wood finish. 3 feet by 1 ½ feet by 4 feet when you open it the top 4 inches is solid and door below so top is perfect and solid for act. I don’t want to paint it but have been thinking of getting the right pictures for theme and shellac them on to trunk. then age it and then use air brush accident it then age it again then when get it done A clear coat….. Note Have not touched it yet the coat hangers in it and trunk still smelt new someone lost the key and broke the lock off but it was a find and held off touching it , cause I cant take it on motorcycle. When I found it I was packing bigger then I do now so just hanging on to it and some day will start doing something with it
