If you wanted a reason to set it down... If you connect the face, or maybe just the hands to a spring then as you are walking you can release the spring so they hit you in the back of the head. You set the clock down and try to fix the face when the rest of the problems with the clock start.

Those are some really great suggestions. Thanks for all the advice. I think using some kind of cardboard or other light board is going to be easier for me to do. Wood would have a really nice look. Faking it though is something I was unsure of how to do. I had forgotten all about that fake wood paper! I wish I'd taken carpentry in high school. Metal shop was worthless except for the valentines cookie cutters I made.

Do you remember the clock shop skit on the Carol Burnet show? It was with Tim Conway and Harvey Corman. I'm not sure what you are planning but it soulnds like you should have a look at it. Tim Conway is his old character and is trying to fix a grandfather clock.

It's one of my favorites.

I will youtube that right now! I got the idea myself from a reproduction of an old Mickey Mouse book from the 30s! It was called The Clock Cleaners. They made a short I have yet to watch too. I don't think it is the exact same story but I am guessing it will be good inspiration too.

Chance... If you plan on painting your cardboard, insulation foam core, whatever your choice of building materials is... try using a paint that is made for OUTDOORS... this will help weatherproof your clock.

Also try picking up a woodgrain painting tool from walmart. Paint with a dark color first, let it dry, then go over it with a darker color... drag your woodgraining tool through the wet paint and VOILA! Instand woodgrain.

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!

Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!

Lilly

I'm pretty active in the Halloween community and we use foam for EVERYTHING... we use it for tombstones, coffins, glue it together and carve stuff out of it... the possibilities are endless... We also use it in our theatre for sets, etc.

Liquid Nails is the best glue for the foam.

Just remember that spray paint EATS foam... its best to use a flat laytex paint.

Many decorators use a Hot Glue Gun. 3M makes a spray adhesive that works well for some foams. The challenge is that there are a number of different foams out there and what works for some does not necessarily work for others.
