Smile Improv?

I find that a vast majority of my shoes follow this plan:
1.Intro of myself
2. Juggling
a. balls
b. clubs
c. Diabolo
d. Cigar boxes
e. big trick (rola bola, clubs, maybe an apple)
3. Magics
4. Balloons

Within that skeleton everything else is improv including the tricks involved.

Does anyone else basically improv their shoe or do you try to stick to a script?

That's a really big shoe!

Structure is important to me and I think it helps to keep things moving along and maintaining control (kids, especially, will just run right over you and let things get out of hand if you don't direct the experience). Yet I thrive on improvisation and like to foster that more loosely, going with the flow of whatever comes and enabling unique responses to play with.

I also work with a basic structure. Then around that it is a lot of improvisation. I even sometimes shuffle the structure itself if the sircumstances ask for it. My shoes mostly follow this plan, but I do like to experiment with different struktures so once in an while :

Introduction
Balls
Dressingact
Clubs
Diabolo
Balloons

And when I got more time:
Eatact
Spinning plates

Most of my work ends up being festival or walk around so it's all improv. I have a few things I keep to like face painting and balloons so it's pretty easy. Parties end up being games and such, but I love keeping it loose.

If I am booking an hour birthday party or the like for children say 12 years old or less I usually do a comedy interactive magic "show" running roughly a half hour followed by balloons for the time remaining.

We have a solid framework for our show - which frequently gets broken when Cubby goes off on a tangent of improv! We're fortunate that he's a natural born clown - no costume needed. I provide the balance of our show... pulling him back in to the framework before he gets too far off track.

I generally focus a simple structure and kind of let improv taken over depending on how my audience is feeling.

Well, I've never done a complete show on my own being a minstry clown, but I teach toddlers & children's church on a regular basis as just plain me. Either way, in clown or as myself, when working with children... well, doing pretty much anything for that matter... my motto is this: Go in with a plan but go with the flow.
